Principal's Honors Breakfast 2016
One of the highlights in Texas City ISD is the Principal's Honors Breakfast, which honors the top 5% of the graduating class. It is a moving event that features not only outstanding students but the teachers that have inspired, encouraged and motivated them along the way.
The Principal's Honors Breakfast began in 1996 at Texas City High School (TCHS). Each student has the opportunity to honor one teacher who has had a significant influence on his or her education and life. Both are formally recognized at the event. Each student writes a narrative about his or her teacher explaining why he or she has been chosen. The narrative, which is published in a keepsake program, highlights the students' appreciation for them. At the breakfast, the teachers share a memorable story about the student.
It's inspiring to read the stories the students write about their teachers and how they have made a difference in their lives. Words students use to describe these important men and women in their lives include dedicated, inspiring, genuine, impactful, encouraging, confidence-builder, positive, endearing, motivator and more. Equally touching are the sweet, funny stories the teachers tell about the students.
If every single teacher could have this experience at least one time in their lives, it would make their career. Every parent also deserves to hear the impact their children are making in their lives away from home.
This year's honorees included:Taryn Barzar with honored teacher Courtney Pugh; Brooke Beanland with honored teacher M.C. Giusti; Kelsey Boyd with honored teacher Alexis Knape; Alyssa Briones with honored teacher Sandy Sheffield; Abigail Burke with honored teacher Nikki Ashcraft; Samantha Butler with honored educator Sandi Belcher; Brooke Cotter with honored educator Staffany Rawls; Celina Dowdy with honored teacher Dana Johnston; Sofia Faus with honored teacher Bobbi Jo Davis; Jacob Garza with honored teacher Nancy Abernathy; Greg Goetschius with honored teacher Boyd Sawyer; Miranda Gonzales with honored teacher Victoria Graves; Kayelie Harvey with honored teacher Emily Stafford; Mauricio Hernandez with honored teacher Desiree Haddock; Cody Kelemen with honored teacher Jackie Durio; Angela Moreno with honored teacher Reda DeVries; Efrain Perea Alvarez with honored teacher Rosalinda Meadows; Sydni Specenter with honored teacher Jennifer Massie; Megan Treadwell with honored teacher Dr. Kathy Williams; Cheyanne Tucker with honored teacher Scott Smeltzer; Ashley Valdez with honored teacher Joyce Steinbach; and Amy Wadding with honored teacher Yolanda Mazur.
For any of you doubting what our world is going to become because of today's young people, do not fear. We've got enthusiastic, dedicated, ambitious, genuine teenagers who are ready to take on the world. They are on track for success not only because of support from home, but because that care is reinforced at school in TCISD from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. The honors breakfast is hosted by the TCISD Foundation for the Future and funded through generous donations from business partners.
