TCISD 2016-17 instructional calendar
The instructional calendar for Texas City ISD has been approved for the 2016-17 school year. The first day of school will be on August 22, 2016 and the last day of school will be on May 25, 2017. In the past, both La Marque High School and Texas City High School have had graduations on the Friday night following the last day of school. Since both schools will be in TCISD next year, the graduations can't be held on the same night. The schools will alternate each year who gets the Friday night graduation.
In order to be fair for 2017, a coin toss was held. The principals drew to see who got to call it. TCHS Principal Holly La Roe drew the slip to call it. She called "heads". Heads won and she selected Friday, May 26, 2017 for TCHS Graduation. LMHS Principal Ricky Nicholson will be consulting with parents to see if a Thursday or Saturday graduation is preferred. In 2018, LMHS will have the Friday night graduation. They will alternate each year after.

Coach Oregbesan gets 100th career win
Head Softball Coach Jennifer Oregbesan received her 100th career coaching win this week with a 17-0 win over Fort Bend Marshall.
Coach O has been the softball coach for the Lady Stings for the last 3 years. She previously coached 7 years at North Shore High School. She's in her 6th year as a head softball coach. A softball player herself, she played for her high school team in California and then went on to play college ball at William Penn University in Iowa.
Her life was influenced by positive mentors that led her to education and coaching. " I remember my coaches and teachers making a difference in my life and I wanted to do the same thing," Coach O said. "I love the game of softball. I love the young adults I work with. They are my kids away from home."
While celebrating the 100th win was victorious, Coach O is already planning for the next one. "It's been a fantastic journey! Now onto 101+," she said."
"I have really enjoyed my time in Texas City thus far," Coach O said. "The 'family' feel is a great feeling to have when teaching and coaching."
