Roosevelt-Wilson Elementary School is going to have their annual Fun Run on Saturday, April 9 at 8 a.m. at Nessler Park/Rotary Pavilion. Sign up today and you'll get a cute Tshirt with the logo above! 
State Powerlifting results
The TCHS Powerlifting team had a great State Meet on April 2. Jared Hernandez finished in 8th place with a 1,380 total in the 165 weight class. He also set a new personal best in squat at 540 lbs. Demontrey Bell finished in 15th place in the 198 and Dante Hayes finished 17th in the 275 weight class. The team had a great season! Their coach is James Shepherd.  
Golf takes 3rd at District
TCHS Ladies Golf took 3rd at the 23-5A District Golf Tournament this week. Congratulations to Treslyn Ortiz, Kara Jalufka, Brice McPhee, Hanna O'Donnell and Savannah Wood. Their golf coach is Christian Dunn. 
Jazz Band gets Superior
On Saturday, April 2, the TCHS Jazz Band attended the Annual Sam Houston State University Jazz Band Festival where they received a First Division, Superior Rating, for their performance. Congratulations to these students and their director Casey Watson.
District Journalism Champ
The TCHS Journalism team participated in district competition at Ball High School on April 2nd where they received the award for Overall Journalism Team District Champions for 2016.

At the District UIL Academic competition, 7 students competed in Accounting and Computer Applications. Evan Pratt will advance to Region to compete in Computer Applications and two others are alternates. Business teachers include Hope Smalley-Jackson, Denise Callis and Julie Puckett.

Pre-K/Head Start enrollment begins soon
Pre-Kindergarten/Head Start enrollment in Texas City will be held May 2-5 and again June 6-9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Calvin Vincent Early Childhood Center, located at 1805 13th Avenue North.
 
Children may qualify for programs if they meet one or more of the following criteria:  
�  Your child will be four  years old on or before September 1, 2016, and
�  Family meets National Poverty income or National Free/Reduced-price lunch program guidelines or
�  Family is currently receiving TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families), or
�  Family is currently receiving SSI (Supplemental Security Income), or
�  Child is currently in foster care, or
�  Family is homeless, or
�  Child is unable to speak and comprehend the English language, or
�  Is a child of an active duty military member or the armed forces of the US, or
�  Child is or has been in the conservatorship of the Department of Family and Protective Services following an adversary hearing held as provided by Section 262.201, Family Code.

TCHS Scholarship Bulletin
Seniors should be looking into scholarships now if they are planning on going to college next fall. Here is a comprehensive  Scholarship Bulletin that are either available at TCHS in Room B110 (Ms. Rawls) or online. Students should read through each summary to determine eligibility. If you have any questions, email Ms. Rawls or call her at 409-916-0843.  
FAQs on LMISD annexation
If you have questions about the annexation and how it will impact your family, feel free to email TCISD. Feel free to review this list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) to see if we have already addressed your concern. For staffing purposes, TCISD needs to know how many students will be enrolled in La Marque schools next year. Here's information on Pre-Registration.  
SAT and ACT for juniors
Juniors are strongly encouraged to take the SAT & ACT at least once this school year if they are planning on attending college in the fall of 2017.

Sting Out Jr. pre-orders
Project Grad 2017 is selling the 2017 Sting Out shirt for $15 and is available for incoming Seniors only (current Juniors) at this time. All orders are due by April 19. The entire current Junior Class is encourage to purchase a shirt so they can participate in the picture that will be taken for the football program. These shirts will be sold to everyone else beginning in August. Download the Order Form
 
TCHS 2016 Prom tickets
Texas City High School Prom, Light Up the Night, will be presented by the Class of 2016 on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at the San Luis Hotel Ballroom from 8 p.m. until midnight.Tickets are $60 individually or $100 per couple. All tickets are $100 per person at the door.
TCHS Palm Beach attendance incentive
A trip to Palm Beach on May 25 is on the line for a class attendance competition at Texas City High School. The grade levels that keep an average of 96% attendance each day between March 28 and May 23 will get to go.  Students can win the trip individually if they miss 2 or fewer days of school during that same time period. 
PSA - Non-profit schools
Attention Non-Profit Private Schools, Home Schoolers
Non-profit private schools and home schoolers who legally qualify as non-profit (currently hold a 501-C3 certificate) are invited to meet with representatives from Alvin, Clear Creek, Dickinson, Friendswood, Hitchcock, La Porte, Santa Fe, and Texas City Independent School Districts to learn more about federally funded services available for eligible residents of these districts. The meeting will be held at the Cowan Administration Building in Santa Fe ISD, located at 4133 Warpath (Ave T) in Santa Fe, Texas 77510 on Thursday, April 21, 2016, at 1 p.m.

Engineering/Robotics medal at State
Twelve students from TCHS Robotics & Engineering attended the SkillsUSA Texas state conference and contests April 1st-3rd. In Mobile Robotics Technology, the sophomore team of Celeste Lindusky and Sam Moon took home the silver medal and are alternates to the national conference.  In Prepared Speech, sophomore Jaeden Johnson took home the bronze medal. All students received an excellent or superior rating for their job exhibit projects. Their teacher is James Jobe.

Architectural Drafting wins Best of Show
The TCHS architectural drafting students excelled at the SkillsUSA State competition April 1-2. They competed as a chapter in a competition category for innovative architecture and created a tiny house design. The project consisted of architectural design drawings, a detailed notebook of information, photos, and descriptions of the project, and a scaled model to make the project come to life. They won a superior rating for their project and also won a Best of Show rating for their competition category. The students who participated and created the project are: Rylan Hara, Justyn Hernandez, Tori Kimling-Charalambous, Jeron Rogers, David Sanchez, Collin Stinson and Kiavania Wells. Their teacher is Lindsay Owens.
Youthfest & Duck Derby set for April 9th
The 9th Annual Youthfest and Duck Derby is sfrom 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 9. Stop by Sting Creek, in between the TCISD administration and St. Mary's Catholic Church on 9th Avenue, for a fun-filled family day with many chances to win prizes.
   
There will be 5,000 yellow ducks racing down Sting Creek to the finish line where the Top 10 ducks will win fabulous prizes. One "Lucky Duck" is worth a chance to win a new Ford car or truck valued at $50,000 sponsored by Moody National Bank. In addition to the Duck Derby, Texas City ISD choirs and bands will be performing during the Youthfest. The event begins at 11 a.m. and concludes at 4 p.m. The duck launch will be at 3 p.m. Food and fun activities will be available throughout the day.

Duck Adoption papers are now on sale and can be purchased from any TCISD student, at any TCISD School, at the Simpson Education Support Center, City Hall, Texas First Bank, the TC-LM Chamber of Commerce and more. You can also adopt online.

Welding earns awards at State contest
The welding group had a very productive showing at the State SkillsUSA Competition April 1-2 in Corpus Christi. Shawn Trader is very proud of the boys and said that this group worked extremely hard for 5 months to achieve all these accolades.

Drumline takes 3rd at Championships!
The TCHS Indoor Percussion Unit placed 3rd in their first ever Indoor Percussion State Championship this past weekend. Congratulations to the students and their Director Ben Guillotte.
TCHS Bowlers finish 6th in State
Last weekend the Texas City High School girls bowling team competed in the State Tournament in San Antonio. The Lady Stings were 1 of 36 teams competing for the title at Bandera Bowl. The Lady Stings qualified as the #6 seed for the 16 team bracket play. They defeated Converse Judson High School in the first round to advance to the elite eight. The Lady Stings then were defeated by Killeen Ellison High School to bring the season to an end.
The following day Briana Pate, Chloe Kocourek, and Jensine Grant competed in the singles competition of the State Tournament. All three ladies missed the bracket tournament by just a few pins.

The team finishes the season as District and Regional Champions and # 6 rank in the state.Their proud TCISD coach is Jacob Hon. 
Culinary & Hospitality winners named
Culinary and Hospitality students have received multiple honors during the Spring Semester.

Six students received scholarships through the Texas ProStart Competition. Briannah Brooks, Olivia Cravens, Kishawn Manning, Sarah Medders, Gabriela Rico and Marcus Sandino each were offered $1,000 scholarships to Johnson & Wales University and $500 scholarships to Escoffier Culinary School.

Maria Mercado won Best of Show at the District SkillsUSA competition for her Baking Project.

Six students placed in competitions at the Hospitality Educators Association of Texas (HEAT) Culinary & Hospitality Competition at the end of March. Cassandra Nuno, Ethan Ramirez, Alexis Shotwell and Tyler Sumney won 3rd Place in the Luggage Relay. Brooke Essex, Heather Flores and Alexis Shotwell won 1st Place Center Piece Design.

Their teacher is Veronica Saldana.

The final performance of The Great Gatsby is Tuesday, April 12 at 7 p.m. at TCHS. Come see this award-winning one-act play and the award-winning cast and crew for one night only!
Pre-K and Head Start spread awareness
On Friday April 1st, Calvin Vincent Staff and Students did not "fool" around! Instead, they kicked off Texas Child Abuse Awareness Month with special T-shirts and pinwheels.
