TCISD leadership changes
Jeff High, who was most recently the Principal of Roosevelt-Wilson Elementary School is taking on a role in TCISD central administration for the remainder of the school year to help hire an influx of staff needed for next school year. Veteran Heights Assistant Principal Wendy Patterson started as the Interim Principal this week. She will work alongside Assistant Principal Debbie Fuller through June. Patterson is not new to Roosevelt-Wilson Elementary. She previously taught both first and fourth grades there for 15 years before receiving her promotion to assistant principal 5 years ago. Jana Ferguson, who retired last year from working as the assistant principal at Roosevelt-Wilson will be assisting Heights Principal Nathan Jackson for the remainder of the school year. Texas City ISD is going through many transitions as we prepare for the annexation of La Marque ISD to Texas City ISD by order of the Commissioner of Education. One of the biggest challenges is for us to staff every single employee for four schools in La Marque. High is very skilled at the hiring process. It will benefit the district for him to serve in this new role. At the same time, his excellence in school administration leaves a great foundation for Patterson and Fuller to continue the success parents expect at Roosevelt-Wilson Elementary School.

La Marque Elementary Principal named
The Texas City Independent School District Board of Trustees has approved the transfer request of Sharon Williams as the new principal of La Marque Elementary School beginning July 1, 2016.
Williams is a graduate of La Marque High School. She is currently completing her first year as the principal at Kohfeldt Elementary School in Texas City ISD. She was promoted last summer after serving as the school's Assistant Principal for two years. Prior to that, she served as the District's Technology Instructional Specialist for 7 years. She also served as a teacher and instructional specialist in La Marque ISD over a 9-year period. In addition, Mrs. Williams spent about 2 years working for the University of Texas systems.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Applied Learning & Development from The University of Texas Austin, a Master of Science in Instructional Technology with Human Resource Specialization from the University of Houston Clear Lake (UHCL). She also has Mid-Management Certification from UHCL.
"I am extremely excited about La Marque Elementary School under the leadership of Mrs. Williams," said Superintendent Cynthia Lusignolo, Ed.D. "She has been a valuable asset in Texas City ISD for the past 10 years, and I believe the La Marque 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade students and the staff at La Marque Elementary will thrive with Mrs. Williams' leadership."
Williams is excited about the opportunity to return to her hometown. "I requested to transfer to La Marque Elementary because it has always been my dream to return. After leaving LMISD for a promotion in 2006, I've tried to return several times, but circumstances just would not allow for it. La Marque ISD has given me so much! It started with my K-12 education which prepared me for everything that has come my way thus far. Then again, La Marque ISD gave me a second start in 1998 by hiring me as a 4th grade teacher. While La Marque Elementary will be a part of TCISD, I see this as my time to give back to a community that I love so much. I can't wait to meet the current students and parents and possibly re-acquaint with some of my former students who have children in schools there. I am very excited about coming home!"
"Mrs. Williams is a devoted educator who puts students' needs first. Her experience and skills will be a great benefit to the staff and students at La Marque Elementary School," said Dr. Lusignolo.

Culinary Arts whips up scholarships

Texas Public Schools Week March 7-11
Although it has seen its share of changes throughout the years, a free, public education has long been the heart of Texas. In fact, the Texas Declaration of Independence in 1836 listed the failure of the Mexican Government "to establish any public system of education, although possessed of almost boundless resources" among reasons for severing political ties with Mexico.
The Freemasons in the state of Texas initiated the celebration of Texas Public Schools Week (TPSW) in 1950. The celebration is traditionally proclaimed in March in order to coordinate with the celebration of Texas Independence Day on March 2.
Texas City ISD is celebrating Texas Public Schools Week March 7-11, 2016. We welcome family, friends and the community to join in the activities taking place during this week. Download a complete list of activities

Spring LEADS applications due March 11; outdoor challenge course is in May
Texas City High School is currently taking applications from juniors and seniors for the Spring Charles T. Doyle Leadership Program (LEADS). Applications are due March 11. The Spring 2016 event is a low elements ropes challenge course. This outdoor event will use a variety of team building activities that help students not only work together but grow individually.
The Charles T. Doyle Leadership Education and Development Series Program (LEADS) was the vision of former Texas City Mayor Chuck Doyle. The TCISD Foundation for the Future and the Texas City - La Marque Chamber of Commerce Leadership Mainland partnered together to bring life to this project more than 10 years ago.
The LEADS program emerged to provide a leadership-training opportunity to select junior and senior high school students from Texas City ISD and La Marque ISD. It has grown to include Galveston, Dickinson, Hitchcock, Santa Fe and O'Connell.
The main focus of LEADS is to develop future leadership opportunities for students with the local business community. One day leadership events are scheduled each fall and spring.
Seniors who attend both LEADS activities their junior year and both LEADS activities their senior year are eligible to be in a drawing for a $1,000 scholarship from Mr. and Mrs. Doyle.
