Annexation community meetings set
Texas City ISD has set two more community meetings regarding the annexation of LMISD to TCISD. Two dates and locations are being provided to give the community more options. The first meeting will be on January 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the Blocker Middle School Auditorium, located at 1800 Ninth Avenue North in Texas City. The other option is to attend the same meeting on February 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the La Marque High School Commons, located at 397 Duroux in La Marque. Thank you, TCISD School Board Members
January is the time to officially celebrate School Board Recognition Month. This article is dedicated to the seven people that unselfishly serve on one of the most important executive committees in our community. We are grateful to President Manuel Guajardo, Jr., Vice President Dickey Campbell, Melba Anderson, Hal Biery, Dickey Campbell, Davis Moss, Tom Prouty and Bryan Thompson for donating their time to make sure Texas City ISD is at its best.

The School Board is vital because it governs the policies and procedures for schools set by federal and state guidelines. Although the regular school timeline for teachers and students is late August through June, the administration and school board have to work throughout the year to ensure all goals and objectives are met. Again, we celebrate the self-sacrifice and donation of time from these individuals.

Throughout the year, certain agenda items have to be met. Generally speaking, in education, summertime is usually thought of as vacation time. However, for the school board and administration, summertime is the busiest of the year. During the summer months, a small example of some of the items for discussion are district policy changes, district long-range planning, review of proposed budget, budget calendar approval, budget development, review of preliminary state testing results, review of student and staff handbooks, review/approve the code of conduct and approve salary schedules. Summertime also includes the resignations of some and the hiring of others. When you see a school board member, please thank them for their never-ending community service.

School board members not only have to meet and discuss these issues, but also field questions and concerns from local citizens, parents, teachers and students about policies and procedures of the district. As always, the school board and superintendent maintain an open communication base to keep one another appraised of school business and day to day operations.

It is not an easy job, as you can see from just a few examples listed above, to take so much time without pay, but these individuals do it for the sole reason of giving our Texas City students the best education possible. Please join me in saying a heartfelt, "THANK YOU" to Board President Manuel Guajardo, Jr., representing District 2; ; Board Vice President Dickey Campbell, representing District 5; Board member Melba Anderson, representing District 1; Board member Tom Prouty, representing District 3; Board Member Tom Prouty, representing District 4; Board Member Hal Biery, representing District 6; Board Member David Moss, representing At-Large.

3 students earn All-State Band & Choir
It was a great weekend for Texas City ISD Fine Arts because Riley Harper, Tenor 2, earned membership in the prestigious Texas All State Mixed Choir, Sofia Faus, Soprano 1, earned membership in the prestigious Texas All State Women's Choir and Thomas Armstrong, E flat clarinet, received 2nd chair in the prestigious 5A All State Band!

These students will join hundreds of other Texas high school students in San Antonio February 10th-13th to rehearse with the All State Bands, Orchestras, and Choirs to perform at the annual TMEA Convention.

Both band and choir students begin the audition process by learning and performing their music as early as July of each year.

"Their journey took them through three previous auditions and the process of learning seven advanced college level works for choirs," said TCHS Choir Director Kathy Skinner.

"A specialty instrument like the E flat Clarinet has to go into an additional round against 6 other students across the State of Texas through a recording process. Out of those 7 students, only 3 are chosen to be a part of the All State Band," said TCISD Band Director Matthew Raines.

Five choir students and three band students made their All Region audition to get to compete at the All State level. There were 24 choir students and 21 band students that qualified at Pre-Area. Theri names can be found in previous editions of the Stingaree-News. Congratulations to all of these students and their directors.
