TCHS Robotics excels at first contest
The Texas City High School Robotics Program competed for the first time ever in the VEX Robotics Competition, presented by the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation.
Each year at this competition, an engineering challenge is presented in the form of a game. Students, with guidance from their teachers and mentors, use the VEX Robotics Design System to build innovative robots designed to score the most points possible in qualification matches, elimination matches and Skills Challenges. In addition to having a great time and building amazing robots, through their participation in the VEX Robotics Competition and their work within their team, students will learn many academic and life skills.
This event held in League City was a highly competitive contest with more than 40 teams including seven of last year's World Championship qualifiers, a World Runner-up, and the last two U.S. Open Champions.
How did TCHS rank? Texas City was ranked 13th in the Competition, 6th in Programming and 9th in Driving. Texas City was selected as part of the 7th Alliance. Congratulations to robotics teacher James Jobe and robotics team
Victor Garms, Matthew Jecker, Hannah Rose, Thomas Armstrong, Sam Moon and Celeste Lindusky.
"Our students worked very hard to compete against programs and schools that have been competing for many years," said TCISD Director of Career and Technology Education Richard Chapa. "Texas City will compete again this Saturday at Space Center Houston attempting to qualify for the U.S. Championship."
Marathon donated $25,000 last year to the TCISD Foundation for the Future to get this Robotics program started.
Good luck!

TEA annexes La Marque ISD to TCISD
We have been notified by TEA Commissioner Michael Williams that La Marque ISD has been annexed to Texas City ISD effective July 1, 2016.
"We respect the Commissioner's decision, and we are prepared to move forward with the annexation process in a way that benefits both communities and all students," said TCISD Superintendent Dr. Cynthia Lusignolo.
To help facilitate this transition, TCISD will be hosting a Parent and Community Meeting in Carver Recreation Center on Thursday, Dec. 10 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. This will be one of several public meetings that will be held as we plan for the upcoming school year. Carver Center is located in Carver Park at 6615 Park Avenue.
Prior to the December 10 meeting, we want to give both communities the opportunity to ask questions. For this purpose, citizens can email their questions. The questions, along with TCISD responses, will be posted on the TCISD website under the heading Announcements.
"Although it's early in the planning process, we want to assure both communities that we value neighborhood schools and the long, proud tradition of the La Marque Cougars and the Texas City Stingarees. With this in mind, students will continue to attend their neighborhood schools for the 2016-2017 school year," said Dr. Lusignolo.
