Tax ratification approved at the polls
The TCISD Tax Ratification Election was successful with 55% voting "yes" and 45% voting "no". Superintendent Dr. Lusignolo said, "We are appreciative of everyone who took the time to vote. We truly believe that taxpayer ratification of our adopted tax rate will protect our instructional programming which is a direct benefit to our students and ultimately our community."
She also said that administration will continue to look at ways to cut expenses without cutting staff or programs for students. "We will continue to await a ruling from the Texas Supreme Court regarding our school funding lawsuit. We have reason to remain positive in thinking that better financial times are ahead for TCISD." |

Apply for Bank of America leaders
Since its inception in 2005, the Bank of America Student Leaders Program has recognized more than 2,200 exemplary high school juniors and seniors who have a passion for improving their communities. The program helps students gain a greater understanding of how nonprofits create impact in the community and helps develop them as the next generation of community leaders through two components:
* A summer eight-week paid internship with a nonprofit organization selected by the bank. This internship is designed to provide opportunities for the students to develop and apply leadership skills through hands-on work
Experience, while raising their awareness of community issues addressed by their Host Organization.
* The week-long, all-expense paid Student leaders Summit in Washington, D.C. from July 10-15, 2016. Conducted in partnership with the Close Up Foundation, the Summit introduces students to aspects of civic, social and business leadership and provides them with knowledge and skills they will use throughout their life to create positive community change.

Blocker students commit to service
Blocker Middle School students volunteer one day a month. This past month, groups of students volunteered at both Independence Village and the Galveston County Food Bank.
Blocker volunteers helped the Food Bank sort 1,480 pounds of donated products last month. According to Feeding America the sorted, donated food will provide enough for 1,233 meals. Because of this support, the food bank's mission of providing access to nutritional food and cleaning products to the economically disadvantaged in Galveston County is made possible.
