Cornerstone Ceremony
The Texas City Masonic Lodge with the Texas Grand Lodge held a Cornerstone Ceremony this week at Blocker Middle School just as they have for every new construction project in TCISD's history. The dedication ceremony is the symbolic laying of the cornerstone, that which symbolically supports the entire structure. The officers conducting the ceremony, usually officers of the state's Grand Lodge, symbolically square, level, and plumb the cornerstone, assuring that it is set correctly, that "the Craftsmen have done their duty."

After the Grand Lodge officers have squared, leveled and plumbed the cornerstone, the Grand Master Michael L. Wiggins "finished the work" by proclaiming the foundation stone "well formed, true and trusty."

TCISD Board Member Tom Prouty, TCISD Board Member Hal Biery, Grand Master Michael L. Wiggins, TCISD Superintendent Dr. Cynthia Lusignolo, TC Lodge Worshipful Master Ronny Phillips, Blocker Principal Julie Southworth and TCISD Board Vice President Dickey Campbell are pictured after the ceremony.

Leadership event taking applications
Texas City High School is currently taking applications from juniors and seniors for the Fall Charles T. Doyle Leadership Program (LEADS). Applications are due October 2.

The Fall 2015 event is called LEADSopoly and it's modeled after the Monopoly game. The life-size board game, LEADSopoly, encourages students to utilize their team-work, communication, leadership, and financial skills by interacting with their teammates and the local businesses that are represented on the game board.

Background
The Charles T. Doyle Leadership Education and Development Series Program (LEADS) was the vision of former Texas City Mayor Chuck Doyle. The TCISD Foundation for the Future and the Texas City - La Marque Chamber of Commerce Leadership Mainland partnered together to bring life to this project more than 10 years ago.

The LEADS program emerged to provide a leadership-training opportunity to select junior and senior high school students from Texas City ISD and La Marque ISD. It has grown to include Galveston, Dickinson, Hitchcock, Santa Fe and O'Connell.

The main focus of LEADS is to develop future leadership opportunities for students with the local business community. One day leadership events are scheduled each fall and spring.

Scholarship Opportunity
Seniors who attend both LEADS activities their junior year and both LEADS activities their senior year are eligible to be in a drawing for a $1,000 scholarship from Mr. and Mrs. Doyle.
