The 8th Grade Boys Track Team placed 4th in the District Track Meet. The 7th Grade Boys Track Team placed 1st in the District Track Meet. Way to go, Stings!

Zumba at Calvin Vincent

The Calvin Vincent Pre-K/Head Start Relay for Life Team "The Mighty Fighters" is holding a Zumba fundraiser on April 24 from 4-5:30 p.m. in the Kohfeldt gym. The cost is $5. Water will be sold and door prizes will be given out. All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society. TCISD and the public are invited to participate. 

BMS duck sale winners

Blocker Middle School students that sold ducks for the recent Foundation for the Future Duck Derby each got their names into a drawing for $25 Tanger gift cards. Congratulations to Ariel Dwyer, Alexis Foster and Micah Mannie! They are pictured with Principal Julie Southworth and Foundation Executive Director Deborah Laine.

 

Powerlifters honored

Texas City High School Powerlifting held their banquet and recognized students for their efforts this year. Basketball honors named

The Texas City High School basketball teams held their banquet this week and recognized athletes for their efforts this season.

AP exam registration deadline extended

The deadline for registering for Advanced Placement Exams which will be administered in May has been extended to 1 p.m. on April 11. The cost for each exam is $89. Students who are on free or reduced lunch will pay $55 for each exam ordered. Students should register in the TCHS counseling center by 1 p.m. on April 11. Please contact Lonnie Senegal at 409-916-0817 for additional information.

Gringo's fundraiser night for TCHS Band is April 15

The Texas City High School Band is having a fundraiser night at Gringo's on Tuesday, April 15. Dine in or take out from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. that day and Gringo's will give a percentage of your bill to the TCHS Band. Please download the flyer to present as you pay your bill. All proceeds benefit the band.

Fry pet supply drive

Levi Fry Intermediate's National Elementary Honor Society will be sponsoring a pet supply drive from beginning April 14 and ending April 25. The students are collecting treats, food, bath mats, toys and gently used blankets. All donations will be given to the Galveston County Animal Resource Center in Texas City. For more information, email Mrs. Brock or call her at 409-916-0600. 

2014 Senior Prom Tickets

The Texas City High School Senior Prom will be held at the Galveston Convention Center on Saturday, April 26 from 8 p.m. to midnight. Tickets are available for purchase now in the front office of TCHS. Ticket prices are: $60 single; $100 couple; At the Door: $100 per person.

See UIL One-Act award winning play

The Texas City High School Theatre Department would like to invite you to see the performance of the award-winning UIL One-Act Play, The Marriage of Bette and Boo.

 

The Theatre Department was awarded multiple individual awards and was named Zone Advancing Play and District Alternate Advancing Play.

 

Please come out and support these talented students April 10 and April 11 at 7 p.m. in Texas City High School's John C. Martin Auditorium. Tickets are $4.

Girls' team and Hayley - regional golf

The boys and girls golf teams competed at the 24-4A district tournament on Monday and Tuesday at Evergreen Point Golf Club in Baytown. The girls were lead by Autumn Gilley and Lindsey Nolte who finished 2nd and 4th individually. The girls team, also including Amanda Jensen, Meghan Reid, and Maddie Monroe, finished 2nd which qualifies all the girls to advance to the regional tournament. On the boys side, senior Zack Hayley finished 6th individually, qualifying for the regional tournament as well. The golfers will now go to River Ridge Golf Course in Sealy to compete in the regional tournament next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

 

Stings Tennis headed to regional match

District Tennis results are in. Greg Goetschius won 1st Place in A-Boy's Singles to be named the District Champion. Rebecca Fracek finished 2nd in the A-Girl's Singles as District Runner-up. Riley Finn and Quentin Chavis finished second in the A-Boy's Doubles as District Runner-up. All of them will advance to the Regional Tennis Meet at the Blythe Calfee Tennis Center in Willis on April 15 & 16. Boys soccer All-District honors named

 Congratulations to the TCHS Soccer Varsity players who earned All-District honors this year. The Offensive Player of the Year is Tres Rodriguez. Miguel Lopez made 1st Team All-District. Colin Abernathy made 2nd Team All-District. Honorable Mention All-District included Nathan Stahl, Jason Wiggins and Devin McDearmon. Colin and Devin both made Academic All-District. Congratulations to these student athletes and their head coach Chad Carner.

 

Cody Kelemen receives HOBY honor

 TCHS sophomore Cody Kelemen has been selected to attend the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership seminar. The HOBY seminar, held each Spring, is considered to be the nation's foremost youth leadership development organization. The selection was based on essays by nominees who described why they feel they are good leaders. The nominees were selected by their teachers for their leadership abilities and outstanding oral and written communication skills. Congratulations, Cody!

Hodges named to State Dance Team

TCHS senior Sara Hodges was recently named to the Texas Dance Educators Association All-State Dance Team. She represents Texas City on this prestigious list. Sara has been a Stingarette for three years and served as Colonel this year. She was selected by the Stingarette Directors Ashley Hardage and Lindsay Owens for this honor.

 

The TDEA All-State Dance Team is comprised of dancers representing schools from across the state of Texas. All-State dancers participate in an exciting convention experience that includes dance workshops, leadership training, master classes and networking with other students. The All-State Dance Team experience culminates in a performance choreographed by a master choreographer. Each school is allowed to bring one All-State dancer per school.

 

Promotions in Texas City ISD announced

Two more promotions have been announced in Texas City ISD. 

 

 Dr. Terri Burchfield, who currently serves as the Director of Special Programs, will have the title of Executive Director of Instruction Programs. She will continue to oversee the bilingual and federal programs, compensatory education, summer school, accountability, Gifted and Talented (GT) and advanced academics like Pre-AP and AP programs. Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Susan Myers, who was previously reported to get the promotion of Deputy Superintendent effective July 1, said that Dr. Burchfield will be able to focus more on instructional programming for K-12 to help improve instruction and advanced academics in TCISD. She has been in Texas City ISD for 14 years. Ten of those years were in campus administration at Kohfeldt Elementary an the last four have been in central office. She began her career in education in Galveston ISD 24 years ago.

 

 Texas City High School Assistant Principal Courtney Ramirez will take on the role of Dean of Instruction for next school year. This position was previously held by Richard Chapa who not only worked in this capacity this year but also as the new Director of Career and Technology Education. In her new position, Mrs. Ramirez will supervise the testing coordinator, adjust the master schedule and supervise credit recovery and tutorial programs. She will support Principal Holly LaRoe in improving scores in English, Algebra, Biology and U.S. History. A Texas City High School graduate, Mrs. Ramirez joined Texas City ISD professionally in 2010 as the Instructional Specialist for Secondary Math. In 2011, she became an Assistant Principal at Levi Fry Intermediate. This past school year, she moved to Assistant Principal at TCHS. Mrs. Ramirez's 13-year career in education also includes teaching math and science in Dickinson ISD.

Thanks for driving in the Ford Test Drive

There were 256 people that came out for the Ford Drive 1 4UR School held at Texas City High School on Tuesday. Ford Motor Company will give the TCISD Foundation for the Future $20 for each drive that drove the new Ford cars and trucks loaned from Kedge Cook Ford. Thanks to the teachers, students and community members that participated. This event will be held again in the fall so if you missed driving the car you wanted, you can come back out. Linda Santos from TCHS was the winner of the $100 drawing for staff members that participated.

 

 

On-site physicals for students May 1

Students that will be in 7th-12th grade for the 2014-2015 school year have an opportunity to get their required physical at Texas City High School on May 1 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Students participating in any UIL athletic activity must have an annual physical completed and on file with the Texas City Athletic Training Staff, prior to participation. This includes all sports, band, cheerleaders and dance team members.  

  

Participants should enter through the main gym. The cost is $20, cash only. Students may pre-pay beginning April 14. Students should also bring with them their completed 2014-2015 Physical Form that includes parent signatures. The $25 extracurricular payment fee, cash only, is also being collected at this time.
