The New Era of Public Health Training: How the Public Health Learning Network is Preparing the Workforce of Today and Tomorrow

This Web Forum will share how the Public Health Learning Network (PHLN) is building and sustaining a national system for outstanding public health training. It will also feature the Midwestern Public Health Training Center sharing its approach to engaging adult learners, as well as an overview of its recent workforce development activities.



Panelists will:

  • Describe the evolution and future of the public health training delivery system
  • Profile an exemplary public health training course as an example of what the PHLN can do for learners
  • Explore how training centers are working with organizations to bring the best training and resources together for the public health professional

Partner Spotlight: David Mora



David Mora, MS is an Instructional Designer and Learning Management System (LMS) Administrator at the Tulane University Center for Applied Environmental Public Health. He received a Master of Science degree in Instructional Technology and Design from the University of Southern Mississippi in December 2010. As a member of the Region 6 South Central Public Health Training Center team, Mora is responsible for designing and developing multimedia for the center's online courses. Mr. Mora also maintains and provides technical support for existing online trainings hosted on the Tulane Learning Management System.

Featured Course Bundle



Leadership Communication



The Leadership Communication course bundle is designed to refresh and refine the communication skills needed to succeed in today's fast-paced and stressful public health environment. Issues covered in the course bundle include negotiation, conflict resolution, writing techniques, presentation skills, indirect communication styles (e.g. facial expressions and body posture) and the use of media in times of disaster.



Courses in the Leadership Communication bundle:
  • Managerial Communications - 2 credit hours
  • Risk Communication in Public Health Emergencies - 2 credit hours
  • Negotiating Skills for Changing Times - 4 credit hours
  • Leadership Management Communication - 3 credit hours
  • Productive Communication Skills - 4 credit hours
