Cultural Competence in Emergencies Since human beings were created, they have evolved socially, linguistically, economically, and more. Hence, in emergencies, so much is at stake that emergency responders must constantly augment their knowledge, skills, and abilities for working with individuals, groups, and communities in cross-cultural contexts. In this course, emergency responders will gain understanding of their impact on clients when providing public health and medical services. Primary topics discussed include demographic changes in the United States and Louisiana; cultural competence and its related models; and strategies for determining and increasing cultural competence in emergencies.
