Emergency Preparedness: The Role of the Pharmacist

This course will define what a public health emergency is and familiarize pharmacists and pharmacy technicians with the basic components of public health emergency preparedness and the role pharmacists play in disaster events. This course will cover basic policies and directives related to public health emergencies and review the federal and state resources available, with a specific look at the organizations involved in responding to a public health event in Mississippi. This course is intended to give the participant an overview of the characteristics and skill sets for both managers and leaders. It is intended to help the participants reflect on their own career and how they view themselves and to reflect on where they are in their professional development. Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) Emergency Support Function 8 Training Course
 
The Emergency Support Function 8 (ESF-8) Training course consists of five modules focusing on the goals and objectives of ESF 8 and other annexes; disaster behavioral health response, including Psychological First Aid; disaster operations compensation; Emergency Operations Centers; Incident Command Structure; Medical Special Needs Shelters; and volunteer management. In addition, this course provides emergency preparedness and response strategies, resources, and management tools for evacuees and/or their caregivers.  Learn More


Introduction to Program Monitoring and Evaluation in Maternal and Child Health: Session Four - Outcome Evaluation


This session discusses the importance of outcome evaluation in establishing a causal link between an intervention and observed results. The first part of this session will focus on identifying proper outcome measures; the second part will focus on the different types of evaluation designs. Social Media:  The Blurring of Professional Boundaries

Social media has become a great way to connect with people, but in the healthcare profession, social networking can often blur the ethical lines in a patient-provider relationship.  Postings on Facebook and similar sites have cost some healthcare professionals their jobs and some others have even lost their license to practice.  Program faculty will explore the issues which make social media a potential liability for healthcare providers and discuss ways to teach professionals how to avoid the misuse of this new media.  **NOTE:  This course was originally delivered as a satellite broadcast.  CEUs: Nursing 1.5 hours, $10 fee to receive CE certificate via email.  Learn More


Focused Strategic Thinking

This course introduces the process of using Focused Strategic Thinking (FST) to develop an organization's strategic action plan during a one and a half day retreat. The course presents each component of the FST process, provides examples of activities, and discusses expected outcomes of each phase from preliminary analysis to implementation.  Learn More  **This course is located on the ALPHTC LMS and requires a separate login username and password.

The Affordable Care Act: Mandates, Exchanges, Medicaid...and All That

The Affordable Care Act called for the establishment of a Health Insurance Exchange in every state.  Many states have taken the federal-default option.  Nonetheless, all of the Exchanges, now called Insurance Marketplaces, began open enrollment on October 1st of this year.  Coverage begins on January 1, 2014.  This program describes what an exchange is supposed to do and what roles the states have in the default options.  It describes the functions the exchanges will be performing, the nature of the coverage offered, the size of the subsidies available to individuals, the taxes and fees that arise as a result of the exchanges, and why insurance premiums in some states are increasing while they are decreasing in others.  As part of this program, the interplay of the exchanges and Medicaid are considered and the implications of states not expanding their Medicaid programs are discussed.

ENVIRONMENTAL PUBLIC HEALTH ONLINE COURSES (EPHOC)

 

The Environmental Public Health Online Courses (EPHOC) training program has been developed specifically for you - the most important frontline environmental health professional.  This program will not only give you the knowledge and application of the basic subjects needed in your environmental health practice, but also expose you to the broader field, as well as introduce some of the newest concepts that will shape the future of how environmental health will be protecting our communities and our world.  


The fifteen EPHOC courses are taught by a group of environmental public health subject matter experts from across the country.  The instructor group is a mix of academic professors and environmental health practitioners in several different agency settings.  Course content includes the various roles and responsibilities of environmental public health staff in the over 45 hours of online training provided.  The courses can be taken individually on demand.  They have been divided into multiple 40 to 60 minute modules for each course.  Successful completion of the course content and the post test will allow online students to print out a course certificate.  NEHA members can submit the certificate for pre-approved continuing education hour credits toward credential maintenance.

 

 

EPHOC training programs are designed for:

* Individuals preparing for a state or national credential exam


* Environmental health and related-discipline students


* Environmental public health professionals wanting to improve their technical knowledge or receive continuing education hours
