Funds Needed to Properly Store Media Assets, Recordings
Results from our recent archive survey demonstrate an urgent need for both funding and preservation education in order to prevent further damage to older Native media and to keep it safe. Response to a joint survey with ATALM indicates that less than one-third of the 189 Tribes, filmmakers and other collection holders who responded are storing their media assets/audio-visual recordings in a climate-controlled area. More than 70 percent are storing their assets and recordings in an office or general collection storage area. Some of these areas include basements or non-humidity-controlled areas.
