Another Uber driver charged in sexual assault of passenger

Another black eye for Uber after a passenger levels disturbing allegations against a driver. An Uber rider says he called for ride in July and then the driver sexually assaulted him. Prosecutors charged 46-year-old Adnan Nafasat with criminal sexual assault and kidnapping. CBS 2 checked his record, he's never been charged with a serious crime in Illinois before.

Pennsylvania PUC seeks to subpoena Uber CEO Kalanick, raises proposed fine to $19 million

The enforcement arm of the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission is proposing that the largest fine in its history be levied against San Francisco-based ride-sharing company Uber. The PUC's Bureau of Investigation and Enforcement wants Uber to give it information that the bureau's Pennsylvania parent agency already has, but that it isn't permitted to share.

Uber dodges 'covert' transport regulators by blocking mobile phones

"Covert" transport officials in Australia have been thwarted from penalizing UberX ridesharing drivers, claiming their mobile phones have been blocked by the company. Department of Transport authorities in Queensland have been conducting what they call "covert activity" to issue UberX drivers with fines for ridesharing, according to internal emails from Department staffers.

Alleged Uber rape victim looks to sue company in U.S.

The woman who says she was raped by an Uber Technologies Inc. driver in Delhi has reached out to a high-profile lawyer in the U.S. to sue the car-hailing company. The woman, who has not been named in accordance with Indian law that protects the identity of alleged victims of rape, has engaged Douglas Wigdor, a New York-based lawyer who specializes in sexual assault cases.

Uber hit with another cease and desist order, this time in South Carolina

Uber's been hit with another cease and desist order from an upset local government, this time in South Carolina. The Public Service Commission of South Carolina today ordered the transportation company (which also delivers kittens, ice cream, and human food), to halt its operations there due to what it says is improper licensing of its drivers.

Uber driver crashes into cop car, then gets caught with weed in the glove compartment

For the past several months, Uber has been beset by significant controversy thanks to the alleged criminal behavior by some of its drivers, including multiple drivers who have been arrested for sexual assault. And late last week, an Uber driver in Minnesota further embarrassed the company after he first crashed into a police vehicle and then subsequently got caught having marijuana in the glove compartment

Charlotte Uber drivers angry over lower rates

Uber customers are welcoming lower ride rates with open arms, but the company's drivers say they are starting to feel the pinch. The ride-sharing company has continued to lower prices for the past year, which has been difficult for drivers like Chris Barker, who say his once solid source of income has been slashed in half. "Now, I have to double my hours to make what I was making before the cuts," Barker said.
