Message from the President

Greetings fellow Saxons,
Did you make it out to Linbrook Bowl Saturday, April 25th for our Saxon Bowling outing? If not you missed some great fun! We had about 30 bowlers out there and what a hoot it was! Peter Campellone, Class of 1988, said: "No one fell down, no one bowled backwards and no one got hit with their own ball so it was a good day." We had classes represented from 1965 through 1992. Everyone had so much fun we are definitely doing this again in the Fall so watch for further details on a date and time.
We have two other events coming up, Alumni Picnic at Tom's Farms in Temescal Canyon (south of Corona off the 15 freeway) June 28th and Angels Baseball July 25th. There are links with more information on both of these events in the newsletter. We are also planning a Wine Tasting event in Temecula for the early fall and more information will be coming soon.
Our Saxon Band has been honored with performing in the Memorial Day parade next year in Washington, D.C. As you know it takes a lot of money to get a band our size back to Washington along with advisers and chaperones. They are estimating the cost at $110,000 and fundraising has already started by the band and band boosters. But, they could also use alumni support. If you were in band you know what a wonderful program it is. If you can please donate to the band. Those of you who had Mr. Marino as your instructor maybe now is the time to honor his memory with a donation to the band in his name.
I am pleased to report that our numbers are growing even though it isn't as quickly as we would like. We want to give back to Loara and we can't do it without you and your tax deductible donation of your membership dues. If you haven't joined yet please do, it is only $20.00 per year. If you have joined and have put off sending in your renewal please do so when you can.
Check out our website, www.saxonalumni.com, when you get a chance. There is reunion information there as well as current and upcoming events. We also have a Saxon Store where you can purchase t-shirts, fleece jackets and fleece stadium blankets. These items also help fund the association.
Our next Alumni Breakfast has been moved to June and will be at Marie Callendar's on Euclid in Anaheim on June 13th at 9:00 am. This is a change of date due to Mother's Day being on the weekend we would normally have our breakfast and we will be working a booth at the Anaheim Arts Festival on May 16th.
Best regards,
John Marshall
