Message from the President
Hi fellow Saxons,

Did you make it out to the Homecoming Game After the Game Party at Mama Cozza's? If not you missed out on a great evening! Lots of pizza courtesy of Mama Cozza's and appetizers from the Association. We had a great turnout and will be doing this again for sure next year.

We have a special Holiday Brunch coming up. See the Dates to Know section on the right for more information. Seating is limited so get your reservations in early!! I hope to see you there!

We also have a couple of fundraisers going on. One is free and easy, Shoparoo and more info on that is below. The other is See's Candy. Order your holiday candy and part of the proceeds will come to the Association. There is more info on that below as well.

Once again I encourage you to join the Association if you haven't already done so. It costs as little as $20.00 ($5.00 active military) to join. If you have joined us we do thank you and will hope you recommend your classmates join as well.

Please help us to help our Alma Mater

Homecoming Wrap Up
by Anna Kunkle
It was a great night for a Homecoming football game!  It felt like October and Homecoming with a chill in the air and an amazing sense of spirit.  Not only did students and faculty attend the game, but so did alumni and former teachers.

As you first walked through the gate your were greeted by the Alumni Association.  They passed out traditional Spirit Ribbons to the alumni, sold delicious kettle corn, fleece jackets, and stadium blankets.

Once you visited them you made your way to the stadium seating area.  Your first sight would have been the cheerleaders.

As you made your way to the stands to find your seat you saw the band in their traditional band uniforms.  They were very excited to be there and perform a traditional halftime show.

The next thing you know the Loara Saxons are beginning the game.  The fierce look of our team says it all!

The boys played a strong first half.  The fans in the stands cheered, the band played, and the cheerleaders lead the fans in spirit songs.

After the first half the band took the field and the homecoming queen was announced.

Congratulations Queen Duran!

The second half of the game was tough but the Saxons held their own and scored a touchdown!  Although we did not win the game we had the spirit.

After the game, many of the alumni went to Mama Cozza's for the 1st Annual Homecoming After Party!  A big "Thank You" to Mama Cozza's for providing the pizzas for free!

Meet the Faculty - Paul Chylinski, Class of 1982
by Anna Kunkle

This month's meet the faculty spotlight is a major force on the Loara campus. Paul Chylinski graduated from Loara in 1982. After graduation he went to Orange Coast College and received his AA in political Science, then to Cal Poly Pomona and received his BA in Social Science, then Chapman College where he earned his teaching credential, and finally Cal State San Bernadino where is earned is MA in Education. Since graduation he has given back to the community and to Loara High School. As a leader in the community it is no wonder he leads the ASB, he is the Yearbook teacher, and just recently became the chair of the Servathon for the Anaheim High School District (AUHSD). The Servathon is a district-wide project "involving all 20 schools, the kids are to generate service projects through their club, organization or team and to complete all of the projects on January 19, 2015 (Martin Luther King Day of Service). Also, they are raising funds through service (Like a Cancer Walk but through a Service Day) and that money will help kids write grants and do further service on our campuses. I am proud to chair this district-wide project."

It makes sense the Paul would be the lead for such a project since he has been giving back to the community since his years at Loara. He "was very involved with the Anaheim YMCA Camping program". Along with giving back to the YMCA, Paul also participated in waterpolo, swimming, and Mock Trial. Of all the extracurricular activities he says Mock Trial was the most memorial. "We were very competitive in Mock Trial back then and as the first team ever at Loara High School we made the school proud." Extracurricular activities aren't the entire school experience though. He remembers his favorite teacher, Mrs. Ruth Wilkoff and states, "I look bak in and smile about the time in all that I did. Mock Trial, sports, friends, dances...they were great times just being a kid...I am still close to many of them today. My favorite memories are the ones In Mrs. Wilkoff's class just doing history pranks and such."

With everything he participated in it took him one step closer to his diploma and to college. Paul "became a better teacher because of all of them. Being able to speak in public, learning how to deal with school aged kids and be a role model and a parent all in one. YMCA camping is still a big part of my life."

When asked what piece of advice he would give to current Loara students Paul said, "really understand you are here at school for you...for you to learn, for you to have fun, and for you to experience things before you are an adult. Don't try to punish your family be getting bad grades because they aren't the ones that pay the price. Don't sit around waiting for others to entertain you, entertain yourself and get involved. The more involved you are the more richer of a person you will become in the future...Do your best every day, meet someone new, and relax and have fun."

So, what is it like to have gone to Loara and now teach at Loara? "At first it was odd, but now being one of the most tenured Loara teachers it has been a truly rewarding job...I love Loara and this job."
