Three Wishes for 2015 
 
 
What will it take to achieve a balanced assessment and accountability system that serves our students well? Here are three policy notes and three wishes for the new year.

This year will be an important one for students, teachers, and administrators in Virginia's schools. Over the past two decades, accountability policies have hampered our efforts to innovate, emphasized quantity of content over quality of thinking, and elevated test preparation policies far beyond their appropriate role in instruction. Now, change is being considered at both the federal and state levels. How can we assure that reforms move us towards a rational, balanced system? Here are three of my wishes for the new year.

General Assembly Opens Jan 14:
Stay Informed with VASCD Updates!

Actions taken in the 2015 General Assembly will most certainly affect the everyday lives of Virginia students, teachers, and school leaders. Twenty-three volunteer VASCD Advocates - teachers and administrators from school divisions across the Comonwealth- are representing you by communicating VASCD's values and policy positions to legislators.
