School is Boring, And It Needs
To Change

By Allison Zamuda

Break Free from These Damaging Myths

In Breaking Free from Myths about Teaching and Learning (2010), Allison Zmuda identifies nine myths about learning that contribute to school boredom as well as damage our students' natural wonder, curiosity, creativity, joyous exploration and natural learning.

Myth #1: The rules of this classroom and subject area are determined by each teacher.

Myth #2: What the teacher wants me to say is more important than what I want to say.

Do you know your VASCD

regional representative?

VASCD's Board of Directors includes one representative from each of Virginia's eight Superintendents' regions. They are principals, central office leaders, and school-based staff who all have a common interest in ensuring that educators in their areas of the state have a voice in the workings of our organization. Regional reps also use their professional networks to share information about VASCD's events, policy work, and membership.

Be assured that your regional representative would like to connect with YOU! If you would like to receive communications and updates tailored to educators in your area, simply contact your regional representative to get on the list. A listing of regional reps and their contact information is here on our website.
