Rep. Lynn Smith (R) Chair of the House Natural Resources Committee
Thanks to everyone who attended the Legislative Luncheon on January 10th. There were 175+ in attendance and attendees heard about policy and legislative topics on water, Jekyll Island, material recovery, renewables, and environmental justice.

Makara Rumley presented on behalf of GreenLaw discussing Environmental Justice issues alongside Rep. Mable Thomas.

Coastal Land Use
Jekyll Island agreement reached; bill introduced to confirm it

A bill introduced by Rep. Mark Hamilton this week will incorporate the compromise reached by the environmental community and the Jekyll Island Authority to establish a limit on future development of the island.

Makara Rumley is nominated for Who's Who Black Atlanta Award
 
We are so proud of Maraka Rumley, our Environmental Justice Attorney. She will receive her award on January 22nd.

The EPA recently published Equity: A Strong Model for Environmental Justice written by Makara.

Georgia Power withdraws Solar Backup Tariff at Georgia Public Service Commission
GreenLaw will be intervening on behalf of the Sierra Club for the upcoming Wind Docket.

The Georgia Power rate case was a win for solar advocates with Georgia Power withdrawing its backup tariff that would have resulted in extra fees to connect to solar to grid.

Georgia Power Company has issued its draft Request for Proposals (RFP) to fulfill both the last 70 MW of its Advanced Solar Initiative (ASI) and the requirement imposed last year by the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) that Georgia Power Company purchase an additional 425 MW of solar energy.

GreenLaw became a member of USCAN (US Climate Action Network) in January. USCAN is a national network of advocates working on climate change.

GreenLaw also joined Downtown Atlanta Partners.
