Leonardo Turkish Travertine

As we are "March"-ing into Spring I hope you joined in the march to the Southwest Florida Parade of Homes, which was held March 4-13, and included 13 homes located throughout Charlotte County.

One of the homes in the parade is the TowlesCorp Bal Harbor Model Home, at the corner of West Marion and Bal Harbor Boulevard, in Punta Gorda Isles. This home features a Nautilus Pool with a sleek contemporary design.

If you haven't visited the TowlesCorp model home, we invite you to stop by and check out this beautiful home and our amazing pool.

Sincerely,

DIY TIPS

Family-Friendly Yards...Part II, Older Adults

This is the second part of our series on family-friendly landscaping. In last month's newsletter, we shared information about how to incorporate kid zones into your landscape design.

Tabletop Gardening. Just like the kids, adults also enjoy a place to relax, read, visit with friends and garden. This picture shows a tabletop garden raised off the ground to accommodate anyone who can't comfortably bend, stoop and kneel. The height allows someone to sit while gardening.  This garden table is smaller in size so all of the plants are within reach. There are many other designs available-trellis, pyramid, square, rectangle, trough, as well as those designed for wheelchair access.

Ramps. Think about how you and your family will access these new relaxing outdoor areas.  Consider ramps wherever possible. The ramp in the picture above flows nicely around the home and blends with the exterior. For safety, ramps should have no more than an 8 percent slope.

Stair Landings and Handrails. When you have a grade change that is too steep for a ramp, you can design stairs into your landscape. Handrails along the entire flight is best. The picture above shows the handrail begins at the very bottom of the flight so a person feels stable before climbing. If the flight of stairs is long, consider a landing located partway. This picture also shows a great use of limited space, where the landing is located to cause the stairs to be in an L shape.

Leonardo Turkish Travertine

Do you want your pool to look incredible? Take a look at Leonardo Turkish Travertine for your decking, coping, pavers, and more.

As you may know, Travertine is a very popular material for
outdoor uses. It is extremely durable and the color will not ware away in extreme weather.
Travertine stones can be customized to fit any size and shape of pool. The stones appear smooth, but actually have tiny holes on the surface which provide grip and will reduce slips
and falls.
Leonardo French Pattern Travertine has a light earthy background with a mixture of reds, whites, golds, dark browns, grays and light blue tones. Pavers in the Leonardo Travertine French pattern consist of 8x8, 8x16, 16x16, 16x24 sizes.

When making your choice, you should know that there are five grades of travertine stone, premium being the best. The grade is based on the number of holes in the stone: fewer holes, higher quality. One difference in grade is in the amount of filling used; minimal filing is considered higher quality.

Premium Grade Travertine colors are consistent. There is little or no discoloration. Premium Grade has an even thickness. It's filled once by machine and then hand-filled if needed.

Premium grade Travertine is evenly cut, with 90 degree angles. These even cuts will result in less maintenance in the future due to cracks.

For better performance, Premium Grade Travertine is the smarter choice.
