May - National Water Safety Month
Nationally and locally, May is recognized as water safety month. When you have a pool, every day is a Safety day!
Be aware of the variety of protections that are available to prevent access to your pool and find the best choices for creating layers of protection. Even if you don't have children living with you, a visiting child (or perhaps a neighbors' child) may be inquisitive and find their way to your pool. The best defense is to be prepared.
Some general safety tips...
- Always have adult supervision (a designated person)
- Walk don't run - wet surfaces can be slippery
- Have flotation devices available at or near the pool
- Check chlorine for optimum levels
- Make sure pool toys are manufactured for water usage and are in good condition
- Learn to Swim - you're never too old (or young) to take lessons

FSPA Members in Tallahassee for Legislative Session
As a member of the FSPA Executive Committee, I attended the legislative session in Tallahassee. The FSPA has been working with other organizations to have the Department of Health remain involved inspecting water quality and safety for commercial pools. This will ensure that residents and tourists would be protected.
