This Month's Featured Pool

FSPA Contest Entry #3

The client did not want the interior of the infinity pool to match the darkness of the natural body of water beyond. They also wanted a safety cover installed, which dictated using a rectangle shape for the pool. The goal was to add complexity to the design by using
multi-levels and rounded shapes.

Happy New Year!

Keeping up with innovation and training is an important part of our business. Here at Nautilus Pools we like to make sure that we're knowledgeable on all the current technology so we can provide our clients the best choices for their swimming pool design and upkeep.

Equally important is sharing our knowledge within the industry. All licensed contractors have to attend a variety of classes on a periodic basis to keep their licensing up to date. I'm pleased to say that I've recently been certified as a State Approved Continuing Education Instructor.

At the Florida Swimming Pool show in February, I'll be teaching a class on the Rules & Procedures for Arbitration. This information is useful for contractors not only for their licenses, but also as a tool to use in communicating with clients, subcontractors and others who impact their daily lives and businesses.

On another note, over the past year, Nautilus Pools has been holding a contest to celebrate our 25th year doing business in Charlotte County. Take a look at the photo of our final winner.

I'd like to thank all our wonderful clients for their continued support and we're looking forward to many more years of service to our community!

Sincerely,

 Pete Coccaro

Featured Pool
Nautilus Pools FSPA Contest Entry #2

The Florida Swimming Pool Association offers a chance for pool companies to show off their projects with a yearly contest. This year we've designed and installed some interesting pools and we've entered 3 of them in the contest. This is the last that we'll be featuring in this newsletter. Hopefully come February, maybe one of them will join our past winners on our office photo wall.
*****
To add complexity to the design of the rectangle pool, we added a ½ moon shaped glass tiled fountain with 3 LED bubblers, a raised spa (far left) and fire pit (foreground) and an outdoor summer kitchen on an adjoining lower deck(far right). The free-standing fire feature has a 1"x2" split face exterior and a built in drain that is carried through to the summer kitchen.

Artistic Pavers were used for the body of the decking on the main level of the pool while the upper deck area, fountain, lanai and spa spillway are finished in Turkish travertine. The deck is set on a diagonal offset. The Turkish travertine is laid in a French pattern. To tie all the areas together the Turkish travertine was also used as a border and coping. The spa is anchored by matching pillars on either side of the spillway. The spa, fountain and raised deck are rounded in shape to soften the straight edges of the pool.

An Aquamatic Hydramatic Safety Cover was installed on the pool with the lead bar recessed in the wall of the pool (opposite the infinity edge) allowing unrestricted access to the steps. Visually, from the house, one cannot see the cover and the track is concealed and flush to the tile. When the cover is activated a solenoid valve shuts off the spillway at the spa and deck jets to avoid flooding the cover. Water is diverted to another in-floor zone when the cover is closed.

Specialty glass 6"x6" tile is installed on the infinity edge wall. The fountain interior and the planters are bordered with matching 2"x2" glass tiles. The exterior of the planters and the stucco retaining wall are covered in aggregate shell to continue the beach resort theme. The infinity edge has 5 deck jets flowing up to the pool, over the custom made copper dolphins, from the basin beam. Pentair GloBrite Led lighting adds a glow to backlight the catch basin wall creating a spectacular view for boaters passing along the waterway at night.
