FSPA Contest Entry #2

 

Our client wanted a long linear lap pool that does not appear to be a lap pool. Our design includes a 69' infinity s-curve on the pool edge and basin walls which adds interest and creates a softer visual blend into the natural lagoon environment. The 360 degree spa at one end and the fire/water bowl at the opposite end add rounded features that also soften the overall design. (See photo story at right) 

 

 

               

 

 


'Tis the Season
The stores are filled with shoppers and families are planning their annual trip to visit relatives in far flung places across the US. Lucky for us in SW Florida, we're usually the destination site for our northern family members looking for a respite from cold weather and snow.

Make sure that while you're getting your home decorated that you take a few minutes to check your pool... water, chemicals and equipment so everyone can enjoy their holiday stay. It may be too cold for us to go swimming (unless you have a heater) but Northerners think it's Summer here!

That first cheerful voice you hear when you call Nautilus Pools is Brandi Karr, our Service Coordinator. Brandi helps our clients with the day to day questions and service appointments...scheduling clients and our service techs.

A recent transplant to Charlotte County from Akron, Ohio, Brandi's been married to her husband, Matt, for 16 years and they have two boys. In her free time, Brandi enjoys biking and the beach.

Nautilus Pools FSPA Contest Entry #2 
 
The Florida Swimming Pool Association offers a chance for pool companies to show off their projects with a yearly contest. This year we've designed and installed some interesting pools and we've entered 3 of them in the contest. We'll be featuring them in this newsletter over the next few months and hopefully come February, maybe one of them will join our past winners on our office photo wall.

Pool with French curve & negative edge

A 69' infinity s-curve creates the pool edge and basin walls. A vertical running bond wall tile was used on the catch basin common wall along with 1x1 glass tile at the pool waterline, sunledge and spa. The unique color of the infinity basin tile was not available in the sizes needed for the curvature. All of the 12x12 tiles were cut to 6x12 and 6x6 (for the edges) to allow for a smooth transition of the radii. 
 
The 360 degree spa at one end (above) and the fire/water bowl at the opposite end (below) add rounded features that also soften the overall design.

The glass 1" tile on the spa, was purposefully set up to a zero tolerance on the top and outside of the beam so that there would be no cuts. This took two weeks of engineering, design and installation. Note that the first row on the top of the edge lines up with the vertical exterior and interior walls. Each row of glass tile was cut into 1" x 12" strips and laid individually to achieve this beautifully finished project.

 

The glass bead used inside the fire and water bowl feature matches the color of the 1x1 glass tile. The bowl is an oversized 48" in diameter specially sized for proportion with the length of the pool.
