Greetings!
One of the biggest challenges that the Construction Industry (including the Swimming Pool industry) faces is the amount of unlicensed contractors doing business in Florida. Over the past few months you may have seen many local articles relating to a change of law that addresses this issue and wonder "what does that have to do with me?"
Along with the fact that unlicensed contractors may do shoddy work, may be under-licensed for the work they're doing, take an unsuspecting client's deposit and never do the work, there is also the fact that YOU, the client, can also be fined if the local enforcement agency finds that you have hired an unlicensed contractor.
According to state law, unlicensed contractors are fined and consumers who knowingly hire unlicensed contractors can face a fine up to $5,000! To protect yourself, before hiring anyone to work on your home, check to see if they're licensed for the work they're doing, are licensed in your particular community and have references from other local residents.
Don't just take the "contractors" word or think that their "Local Business Tax Receipt" is a license, check the sites listed in the column on the right to make sure they are legitimate. Protect yourself and your home from unlicensed activity!
Sincerely,
Pete Coccaro

We Love to Design Custom Pools!
The spectacular pool that is featured at the beginning of this newsletter deserves some extra attention...At Nautilus Pools we're used to designing and building custom pools. All the elements for this pool gave us a creative challenge that we really enjoyed!
The open air pool is 78' long with a 66' French curve, spa and a 48" combination fire/water bowl! There is also an expansive "sun ledge" for lounging and easy access into the pool.
 | Sun Ledge & Vanishing French Curve Edge |
As far as construction is concerned, this was an interesting pool to build. The negative edge (vanishing or infinity edge) at a 30 degree angle and the S curve offered some challenges especially for the tile installation. Each 13"x13" tile had to be cut to 6.5"x13" for the vertical "running bond" pattern on the curved walls. To conform to the size and shape of the top edge the tiles were cut to 6"x6" and 3"x6" for the edges.

The interior is finished in PebbleTec Cancun Blue with coordinating 1x1 iridescent glass tiles on the sun ledge , spa surround and waterline. The fire/water bowl at the far end is filled with matching glass pebbles for a total coordinated color palette.
In contrast, the deck and coping is Turkish Travertine - overall, a beautiful retreat with an unrestricted view of the water view beyond.

Hurricane Pool
Preparedness
Since Hurricane season extends until late November, here's a list some of the simple things you can do to protect your pool and lanai.
1. DO NOT DRAIN the water from your pool. The weight of the water actually keeps the pool in place and avoids the possibility of the pool lifting if there is lots of rain and flooding.
2. SHOCK - Superchlorinate!
Add plenty of liquid pool chlorine or powdered shock product (found in any pool supply store). This will help to keep the levels up especially with all the additional rain and debris that may collect.
3. REMOVE or SECURE everything on your patio to prevent flying objects that could damage screen enclosures.
4. CLEAR AREAS AROUND
DECK DRAINS
to allow maximum water flow off the deck.
Please be aware of weather forecasts, take appropriate measures and stay safe!
