Greetings!
Pool and landscape lighting has come a long way in the past few years. The addition of LED (light-emitting diode) lights to the spectrum of lightin g choices for outdoor and underwater use has opened a new world of color and mood lighting for your pool and backyard paradise.
Most older pools have incandescent or fiber optic lights. A change to LED saves energy and savings for the cost of the change may be seen in just a year or two. Their longer life span, about 10 times longer than incandescent lights, means less maintenance, too. Most LED units will last for 10 years or more and have been manufactured to fit existing light niches which makes it easier to upgrade.
The lights are specifically designed to add fantastic saturated color to the pool which in turn means that less lights can be used to highlight even large areas. With older style lights a color wheel would be used to create changing colors. Depending on the model or manufacturer, LED lights can offer the homeowner the option for color changes as well as light shows geared to a programmable theme - great for parties and special events. Speaking of programming, as with everything electronic these days, there are even models that can be controlled by your smart phone or tablet!
Adding lights to the landscaping surrounding your pool will add to the ambiance of the entire area. Highlighting trees and bushes accents the beauty of the specimen as well as providing soft reflected light to the pool area. Illuminating the landscape (both within the cage and beyond) will break the wall of darkness that usually surrounds the poolscape at night. This is the same idea that hotels and event planners use to give a feeling of expansive vistas in commercial applications.
