Senior Lionel Morgan hopes class project will help with downtown Raleigh noise issues
Senior Lionel Morgan's class project could help quell disputes over noise levels in downtown Raleigh. Downtown dwellers have complained about late-night noise from bars and restaurants, and the City Council last year approved new rules in an effort to create a quieter environment. City Noise, which Morgan created in his software engineering class, provides data using off-the-shelf technology and a wireless sensor network to measure noise levels.

Shaw University receives $50,000 Apple-Thurgood Marshall incentive grant Shaw University is the first private HBCU in North Carolina to receive a $50,000 grant from Apple and the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) aimed at increasing the number of highly trained minority technology professionals at Apple.

 IBM taps Shaw University to receive $56,000 in-kind grant The in-kind Impact Grant will be used for strategic planning to support teaching, research, service and financial growth. Shaw is the first historically black college or university in the nation to receive an IBM Impact Grant to be used for strategic planning. |

BEAR SPOTLIGHT
 The Tidewater-Peninsula Virginia Baptist Association will honor Pastor Dr. Phil Lucas '76, as one of the three persons selected as the 2016 Foreign Missions Humanitarians of the Year on March 11, 2016. Dr. Lucas serves as the President of Haiti Missions Incorporated. His work as a church builder, evangelist, teacher and scholarship fundraiser for over 25 years in Haiti has been recognized in the United States and Haiti. He is the recipient of the Tabernacle Amour D'Haiti Humanitarian Award in 2015 in Leogane for work performed at the epicenter of the 2010 earthquake, and for 25 years of service in Haiti. |

Our thoughts and prayers to the family of Grayce Moore'53 who passed from labor to reward. Funeral services were held on Sunday, February 21, 2016 at Wright Funeral Home in Oxford, NC.

Our condolences to the Chamberlin family, on the passing of their mother Jane Ballard Chamberlin. Mrs. Chamberlin was the great-grand daughter of Shaw University Founder Dr. Henry Martin Tupper and his wife Sarah. She passed away on February 13, 2016 at the age of 92. May the comfort of God help the family through this difficult time.
