twin otter turns 50!
The Viking Operators' Forum held in Victoria, BC September 8-10 hosted many operators and suppliers of legacy Viking/de Havilland aircraft as well as the new Twin Otter Series 400.

The 50th anniversary of the original DHC-6 Twin Otter was celebrated as many of these "rugged Canadian success stories" are still operated in Canada by several ATAC members and around the world! ATAC member Harbour Air and its maintenance arm, Aeroflite International, were front and centre in the trade show and the program with ATAC Board member Eric Scott presenting on Harbour Air's highly successful use of a range of de Havilland aircraft in their world-leading year-round floatplane operation.
ICAO ENVIRONMENT SEMINAR
ICAO held a seminar entitled Global Aviation Partnerships on Emissions Reductions: Multiplying Environmental Action on September 16-17 in Montreal. Attended by a broad spectrum of international operators and agencies it set the stage for various topics and actions that are sure to be debated during the Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP) meetings in February 2016 leading up to the triennial ICAO Assembly in the fall of 2016. For info contact ATAC.

ATAC PROMOTES GENERAL AVIATION FLIGHT TRAINING IN SHENZHEN CHINA
ATAC flight schools, Calgary Flying Club, Ottawa Aviation Services and Super T Aviation Academy, attended two events in Shenzhen China in September. The first event was the Shenzhen Aviation Transportation Association (SZATA) conference followed by the Aircraft Operators and Pilots Association (AOPA China) Tradeshow and Conference. The focus for the Canadian flight training units was the promotion of pilot training to Chinese pilots for the General Aviation (GA) sector. GA in China requires pilots for the regional airline market, on demand charter, business aircraft and flight training.

At the SZATA Conference, ATAC's Wayne Gouveia was the keynote speaker describing ATAC's role in aviation training and explaining the difference between General Aviation in Canada and China. At the AOPA Tradeshow and Conference Canadian companies promoted Canada at the FlyCanada booth supported by the Canadian Trade Commissioner in Guangzhou China - Christine Tian. Over a thousand packages of information were distributed to the attendees. ATAC also presented an overview of Canadian Aviation to a packed seminar room at the AOPA show.

The highlight of the AOPA exhibition was the signing of an MOU between Calgary Flying Club (CFC) and the Beijing General Aviation (BGA) group to provide pilot training to Chinese students at CFC and ATAC flight schools involved in the training of international students. BGA is expected to sign a contract next month in Calgary with CFC.
