Flight Crew Fatigue Management - Flight & Duty TimE NPA

Recent indication from TCCA is that the briefing on this subject will take place at the end of May or early June. In the meantime, ATAC continues to engage with TC and the Minister's Office on this very important file. ATAC will let you know as soon as an industry briefing is scheduled by TC. We have tentatively planned a meeting with the Minister's staff at the beginning of May after which we will provide a further update. Due to its importance this subject is the theme for this year's ATAC Spring Event taking place on May 20th. This year's session will be in the form of a workshop for operators with briefings on the past and the current state of affairs as well as advocacy plans going forward with regards to Pilot Fatigue Management and Flight & Duty Times related to the recent Notice of Proposed Amendment (NPA).

ATAC MRO

ATAC and many of its MRO industry partners joined together for the 20th MRO Americas this year held in Miami Beach, April 14-16, 2015. The annual ATAC Canadian MRO Networking event took place on the evening of Wednesday, April 15 in the Miami Beach Convention Center with introductory remarks provided by the Miami Consulate Trade Commissioner. We welcomed in excess of 100 Canadian companies and their guests to this excellent evening of networking and business development sponsored by ATAC companies AvTec Aero/CanRep, Discovery Air Technical Services, Kelowna Flightcraft / KF Aerospace, Lockheed Martin Commercial Engine Solutions and Premier Aviation Overhaul Center.

ATAC PARTICIPATES IN AERODROME CONSULTATIONS FOCUS GROUP

Transport Canada is moving to regulate when and how Canada's aerodromes consult with respect to construction at new and expanding aerodromes. The focus group met in June 2014 and a recommendation released recently by Transport Canada was viewed by the focus group participants as not reflecting the agreements. This led to another focus group being held March 31 and April 1, 2015. The results were a much better reflection of the industry participants and should, we hope, see a less restrictive consultation regulation.

NEW FORMAT FOR ATAC MAY 20TH FLIGHT TRAINING MEETING IN OTTAWA

The May meeting in Ottawa is taking on a new format with reduced presentations and emphasis on a member workshop with a focus on "the business of operating flight schools". Prior to the workshop, with the support of ATAC, a data gathering project with successful flight schools is underway to find out how they operate efficiently with increased profits. Mike Doiron (Doiron Aviation Consulting) will be contacting schools across Canada and will de-identify the data gathered. This data will be the basis for a workshop where examples of "business efficiency measurements" will be the topic. Key areas of discussion and information sharing will include "increasing revenues and/or decreasing costs". In addition there will be a discussion about collaboration of flight schools in bulk buying of aircraft parts.

This must attend workshop is free to all ATAC members attending the May event and will provide takeaways and discussion which can be used at your flight school immediately. Learn how fellow FTUs are improving the bottom line in operating their business.

GLOBAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR ASSOCIATIONS (GOA) 2015-2016 - FLIGHT TRAINING

Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada has approved the AOPA Flight Training Expo fall 2015 - Shenzhen China mission for FTUs. This will be the first time that ATAC flight schools will be showcasing the FlyCanada brand in China and will use a booth at the Aircraft Operators Pilots Association (AOPA) to showcase pilot training in Canada. AOPA membership includes regional airline members, on demand charter and business aircraft members and individual aircraft operators. The show will attract a cross section of the AOPA membership. ATAC will be soliciting expressions of interest from members who want to attend the AOPA show and contribute to the cost of supporting a FlyCanada booth.
