TCCA issues CASA - use of SMS to Mitigate Hazards and Risks associated with Unstable Approaches

ATAC supports the use of SMS to mitigate safety issues related to Unstable Approaches. TCCA very recently issued Civil Aviation Safety Advisory (CASA) 2014-3 that encourages the use of SMS in the mitigation of hazards and risks of Unstable Approaches. Operators are encouraged to review this document and incorporate this practice as soon as possible unless of course you have already done so.

ATAC encourages TCCA to allow
the use of Tablets as Electronic flight bags

In support of our members wishing to fully take advantage of the great advances in portable electronic technology, ATAC is encouraging TCCA to adopt the same perspective as the FAA in allowing tablets such as iPads to be used as Electronic Flight Bags (EFB) and to allow them to be temporarily mounted by adequate means without the necessity of formal installation approvals.

Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS)

On April 25, 2014, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced a change to the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service Fees. While per passenger fee was lowered from $5.00(USD) to $4.00(USD), the per plane fee increased to a whopping $225(USD) versus the previous $70.75(USD). ATAC will strenuously object.

U.S. Passenger Rights Phase 3

On May 24, 2014, the U.S. Department of Transportation proposed Consumer Rule III. The intent is to provide passengers complete information on fares and certain core ancillary fees (e.g. baggage fees) through either direct (web) or indirect (online and brick & mortar agent) channels. ATAC is obtaining feedback from members preparatory to filing a submission.

Airport Development Consultations

Transport Canada is undertaking a review on "Greenfield" Airport Development Consultation. The issue was prompted by uncoordinated airport developments which may pose an air navigation hazard. ATAC is participating in the focus group.
