Wayne Gouveia

International Outreach Mission to Singapore/China

Along with Wayne Gouveia, four ATAC member companies participated in the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) trade mission to Singapore and China. In the first leg of the mission Super T Aviation, Medicine Hat College and STR-SpeechTech met with Asian Trade Commissioners and attended the Singapore Air Show. Two days at the Air Show resulted in numerous successful B2B meetings with potential partners in the Asian market. The final evening in Singapore culminated with a reception hosted by the Canadian High Commissioner Heather Grant at her official residence. The mission travelled on to Hong Kong and has met with the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department and the Hong Kong International Airport. The final leg of the mission will include travel to mainland China where they will be joined by a Moncton Flight College representative. Preliminary meetings have provided much information about numerous business opportunities in the Asian region.

ATAC Participates in Discussions on FAA's Overflight Fee

ATAC, IATA and a number of airlines met with FAA officials in Washington to discuss the U.S. Overflight Fee. The fee pertains to air carriers who overfly U.S airspace but do not land in the U.S (both En Route and Oceanic). Following a successful lawsuit in 2003 that ATAC launched against the FAA concerning the Overflight Fee, part of the settlement established a Joint FAA/Airline Committee to hence forth determine changes to the FAA Overflight Fee. FAA approached airlines in 2013 to adjust the fee as the fee to be charged in 2015 is based upon the 2008 U.S. costs. The Committee recommended phasing in the 2013 rates over five years beginning in 2016.
