U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) changes Rules on Pocket Knives
The TSA announced March 5, 2013 that they are changing their Prohibited Item List (PIL) effective April 25, 2013. The PIL determines which items cannot pass pre-boarding security.
The changes include allowing:
- Small knives with a blade length not exceeding 6 centimetre in length or 1.27 centimetre in width. Box cutters and razor blades are still prohibited.
- Sports equipment including hockey sticks, golf clubs, ski poles, pool cues or lacrosse sticks.
- Novelty bats - Provided it exceeds neither 24 inches in length or 24 ounces in weight.
This move will bring pressure on Transport Canada to follow suit.
