Catholic Foundation Sunday Nov 14-15th |
 |
Dear Friends,
This weekend we are celebrating Catholic Foundation Sunday at your home parish and we invite you to get to know us and how you can give THROUGH the Catholic Foundation to all your favorite charitable organizations. Here are a few FAQs:
Who is The Catholic Foundation?
- The Catholic Foundation has been the primary philanthropic resource in the Diocese of Dallas since its founding in 1955. As a community foundation, The Catholic Foundation is the home to more than 300 Donor Advised Funds. The Catholic Foundation created and continues to develop a perpetual permanent endowment fund to provide financial assistance to charitable, religious and educational organizations within the Diocese of Dallas. The Foundation is administered by a staff of professionals and is governed by a Board of Trustees comprised of Catholic business and civic leaders who give freely of their time energy and varies expertise.
How can I get involved?
- We are a community foundation that belongs to the community. As part of this Catholic community, we need your support. When you become a philanthropist at The Catholic Foundation, you can...
- Manage your annual charitable giving through the Foundation, including your tithing and gifts to your favorite charities, like Catholic Charities, the Red Cross or your alma mater.
- Start a fund that addresses a community need important to you. The Alameel family started a fund to help Hispanic students receive a quality education and build better lives. An anonymous family funded the first several years of the Work of Heart Award program, which honors local Catholic school employees.
- Include the Foundation in your estate planning through your will, bequests and other tools.
- Give to the Unrestricted Fund, which is distributed twice a year to meet urgent community needs throughout the Diocese of Dallas.

How does The Catholic Foundation raise money?
- The Catholic Foundation is a charity that receives contributions from donors to make charitable grants. Since the beginning, The Foundation has grown monetarily and the extent of its grant making has grown as well. As an enduring public charity, The Foundation helps donors shape a lasting legacy which will help meet the needs of the community in the years to come. The Catholic Foundation offers considerable flexibility and significant tax advantages for donors, and welcomes gifts of all sizes that help meet needs of the Catholic community.
Where does the money go?
- Thanks to generous donors, The Foundation has been able to award grants to deserving charitable programs, schools, churches, agencies and institutions of more than $100 million in support of such things as scholarships in Catholic schools, new construction of churches and renovations of existing facilities, support for the elderly, and many other important programs throughout the Diocese. All gifts received help the Foundation with the challenge of meeting all the financial needs of the Catholic community which always exceeds the Foundation's available resources. Donor charitable funds can support all legally-defined charities whose work is consistent with Catholic values. The Board of Trustees reviews urgent requests from local Catholic organizations and determines how general funds from the Foundation can be used to help.
