New Trustees Join the Foundation Board

The Catholic Foundation announced the addition of three new Board of Trustee members to set policy, establish direction and oversee the professional management of the organization. The new trustees are G. Marc Lyons, Vernon R. Mullen and James S. Ryan III.

"Our Board of Trustees is made up of exceptional people in the community who live a life of service," said Matt Kramer, President and CEO, The Catholic Foundation. "Each member brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that is sure to build upon the strong reputation of the Foundation, and we are thrilled to start working alongside them."

A Simple "Two Step" to Save Taxes

piggy_bank_money.jpgWhile its too late to take action that will affect this year's tax return, here are a few simple steps to reduce your taxes for 2014.

1. Reduce Investment Taxes

The 3.8% Medicare surtax applies to almost any money you earn from investments. Lower your taxable investment income by shifting some of it to family and charity, such as:

  • A gift for a child who is not subject to the 3.8% surcharge
  • Make a gift to a charity and receive an income tax deduction

2. Reduce Overall Income to a Lower Bracket

Lower your income below the healthcare tax threshold ($200,000 for individuals and $250,000 for married couples) and you will avoid the 3.8% surtax. Here's how:

  • Make a gift of income producing property to family or charity.
  • Transfer your income producing property to a charitable remainder trust that can help you control your income.

The Best of Both Worlds: Help The Foundation and Your Family

old-man-woman.jpg Did you know there is a way to make a gift to the Foundation's unrestricted Philanthropy Fund while creating security for you and your loved ones? It's called a Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA).

In addition to gifting cash for a CGA, you can receive additional tax benefits by utilizing investments such as stocks. You might be surprised at what your payments could be and your rate will never change. Contact Cheryl Mansour or Michael George to learn more about a Charitable Gift Annuity. You'll be supporting our important charitable work while securing an ongoing stream of payments for the rest of your life.
