Entrepreneurship Roundtable held September 25

On September 25 in Fall River, CONNECT was joined by industry, academic, and economic development leaders for a discussion on entrepreneurship in Southeastern Massachusetts. The conversation was led by Eric Nakajima, Assistant Secretary for Innovation Policy for the State's office of Housing & Economic Development. Panelists included Tom Lambalot, CCO at Paratek Microwave, Frank Mann, founder of BioMids, Peter Karlson, founder of NeuEon, and other leaders from regional businesses with entrepreneurial roots. Here are a few of the take-aways:

  • The state has a diverse asset map which is attractive to new businesses, but there is a need for more help from the Commonwealth;
  • Ongoing communication with the State is of high importance to entrepreneurs;
  • The Commonwealth is in a great position to help entrepreneurs by providing testing for business plans, access to industry connections, and access to potential first customers.
CLDP Alumni Reunite, October 4 CLDP Alumni

Over 50 graduates of CONNECT's leadership development program reconvened on Friday Oct. 4 at Bridgewater  for follow-up training and networking with other alumni of the colleges' consortial management development program. Now in its tenth year, CLDP is one way that the CONNECT schools work to cultivate talent and promote advancement and expertise from within our own ranks. Trainers Ed Mitnick of Just Training Solutions offered guidance on ethics--"Standing Up and Doing the Right Thing!",  and Dr. Sabrina Gentlewarrior (pictured), head of BSU's Office of Institutional Diversity, provided insights on diversity leadership.  To learn more about the CLDP program, contact your campus's Human Resources director.
