CONNECT Holds SE MA Legislator Breakfast

On March 1, 2013, fifteen of the region's legislators met with the leadership of CONNECT in Taunton to discuss the impact of higher education in Southeastern Massachusetts. Some of the highlights:

  • In SE MA, nine out of 10 higher education seats are with the public colleges and universities;
  • The CONNECT institutions' economic impact in the region is estimated at $670 million. Every dollar invested generates $4.25 for the region;
  • Annually, the CONNECT institutions graduate over 5,500 students and provide non-credit training for over 18,500 individuals;
  • The Public Policy Institute of Federal Reserve Bank credits public higher education in SE MA with reducing the number of students who fail to graduate high school from 21% in 2000 to 16% in 2008-10; increasing the number of residents with some college from 40% to 56% in the same period.
