PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Good morning!  Today's the final day of golf at the Players and I'm personally looking forward to seeing how this one shakes out.  For the past 3 days we've been working concessions in "The Grove" back behind 17.  While we used to fill 3 tents for the entire week, this year was surprisingly tough just managing 1 for 3 days.  Many thanks to Cathy Curtis, AJ Richwine, Penny Kievet, Tom Gill, Angelo Volpe, and Jepp Walter for working diligently to pull this off.  Once again Rob Baldwin from Robert E Lee HS helped us out by sending some of his NJROTC cadets to help fill gaps in our shifts.

Last week Chief Judge Mark Mahon gave a great presentation explaining the judicial system, who's elected vs. appointed, and all the duties of being Chief Judge, but no extra pay.  I commented to him prior to beginning our program that this was the biggest crowd I had seen on TPC week since becoming a member, many of whom rarely make our luncheons.  This week for the first time in his new office, Duval County Property Appraiser, and fellow SBMC member Jerry Holland will speak to us on trends he sees as well as the challenges of his new office.  Jerry has a great presentation style, never disappoints, and was eager when asked to speak so don't miss it!

***Next Week, our long awaited debate between States Attorney Angela Corey and Matt Shirk will take place and we anticipate a packed house.  We've had multiple calls from media and anticipate a presence, also many guests have expressed a desire to attend the meeting as well.  Events like this in the past have drawn upwards of 100 people, but without reservations in advance we only guarantee food for 50.  Pre-Registration is STRONGLY ENCOURAGED as anyone not having done so runs the risk of not being able to eat or possibly not having a seat so please plan ahead. We will not have door prizes that week in order to allow as much time as possible for the program, we're planning about a 45 minute program.  Finally, Daniel Bean is moderating the event and has asked for members to submit questions to possibly be included in the program.  Please send your suggested questions to him at [email protected]

See you soon,

21ST ANNUAL YAP CHARITY GOLF CLASSIC

The Dunkin' Donuts SBMC Youth Achiever Charity Golf Classic presented by Pet Paradise is scheduled for Monday, May 23rd at San Jose Country Club. Now in its 21st edition, the proceeds will once again benefit the Youth Achiever Program (YAP) and its scholarship funds. Since the inception of this tournament well over $200,000 has been raised for YAP and this year we will again, with your help, add thousands to the scholarship funds.

Quite a few SBMC members are involved with the organization of this tournament in order to secure golfers, sponsors, silent auction items, awards, prizes and volunteers to make the event successful again. Highlight is of course the golf tournament itself at the beautiful and challenging San Jose Country Club. One of the true golfing gems of the Northeast Florida area, this private course was designed in the 1920s by the world-famous golf course architect Donald Ross. Considered a real Ross-classic, this course is high on the list of every golfer to play. The Charity tournament gives everyone a chance to do so and the $150 fee will cover green/cart fees as well as provide lunch, dinner, water/soft drinks and beer ALL DAY, awards/prizes, hole-in-one chances for $25,000 or a Chevrolet and many more benefits. Plus it supports funding for our YAP scholarship. Clearly one of the best ways to spend $150 playing golf and have a whole lot of fun, while helping kids.

The tournament day program is:
  • 10:00 AM             Registration and Boxed Lunch
  • 11:30 AM             Shotgun Start - Format Captain's Choice
  • 4:30 PM               Awards Ceremony, Auction and BBQ Dinner

Our thanks go to Dunkin' Donuts as our new Title Sponsor and to Pet Paradise as our returning Corporate Sponsor. Many other sponsors are contributing, over 25 and counting and too many to feature here.

How you can help:
  • Play in the tournament. Your $150 gives you a great round of golf with food, drinks, prizes, etc.
  • Invite others to play. Tournament participation is open to non-members and the more, the merrier. If you have golf playing family, friends, colleagues, etc. make sure they join us at San Jose. Even better, put a foursome together! A great way for them to meet and see what your SBMC is all about.
  • Secure silent auction items. Gift certificates from places you frequent, products from businesses you deal with, rewards points from credit cards or airlines are all welcome. Contact Anne Urban to donate these items: [email protected] or (904) 699-8704. Many donations are tax deductible.
  • Secure sponsors. Hole sponsorships with company signage on the tee are $300. An ultimate sponsorship including 4 players and a hole sponsorship is $750. Contact one of us below to assist you with sponsorships.
  • Volunteer during the golf tournament on Monday, May 23rd. We need help in various areas and this is a fun-filled day interacting with many members and others in a wonderful environment. Contact Jay Cann (details below) to indicate your interest.
Go to the website at www.sbmccharity.org and click on golf tournament. Here you'll find more information, see all our sponsors and you can sign-up players as well as find donation forms for silent auction items and available sponsorships.

We're looking forward to a great charity golf tournament and appreciate everyone's support to benefit the YAP scholarships.

VETERANS DAY FLOAT RELOCATION

We need some help.

Due to unforeseen circumstances we have to relocate our Veterans Day Float materials from the Central Park Warehouse back to Gene Bushor's place.  To that end we need to muster a working party to do that.

The move is scheduled for Saturday morning, 21 May.  We'll muster at Gene's shop,
hook up the trailer and make some room for the materials on his lot.  From there we'll move to the warehouse load up and bring it back to Gene's storage.  We should be done by lunch time.  The more hands will make the chore go a lot faster.

The details:
Time:  Muster between 9-10am, Saturday 21 May
Place:  Bushor's Tree Surgeons, Inc.
5525 St Augustine Rd, Jacksonville, FL
Warehouse:

Central Park Office/Industrial Park, 3728 Philips Highway #304, (corner of Emerson and Philips)

If you can participate please RSVP to Charlie Armstrong

LUNCH SPONSORS
Are you looking for more visibility and branding for your business?  Would you like more than just a once-a-year spotlight speech to exhibit at the club meetings?  Then check out our new "Lunch Sponsor" opportunities!  This year we're committed to:
  • Providing programs that by names or titles are recognizable and consistent draws
  • Taking ownership of the lunch buffet by choosing the menu each week
  • Designating some tables "Discussion focused" selecting topics to spark conversation
  • Providing multiples channels of information delivery, rather than just verbal announcements mid-meeting (Table take-ones)
  • Tailoring the meeting to a fun and professional presentation
In conjunction with these efforts, we will begin projecting a PowerPoint weekly from 11:30-12:30 listing the speaker & upcoming functions/events as well as up to 5 (4+spotlight) member lunch sponsors in between the various slides.  The spotlight speaker of course receives theirs free.  You create your slide and send it to us, so it's whatever you want it to be, and it's only $25!

Contact Fred Allison, Hal Smith, or Mike Russo for more details:
Fred Allison: C-903-701-1012
Hal Smith: C-904-881-1036
Mike Russo: C-352-274-4407

SERGEANT-AT-ARMS
There are 2016 spotlight speaker dates available!  The book is at the sign-in table at each meeting.

This is free to all members in good standing and gives you the opportunity to talk about your business, family, interests, or anything else you would like to talk about for five minutes.  You are also able to put out business cards, flyers, or informational materials on the tables to showcase your business.

Pick your date before they fill up!

We also ask for volunteers to help us start our meetings to get us thinking about what is really important and what is behind whatever success we have achieved - God and Country.

If you have a calling to lead us in prayer/invocation or the pledge of allegiance, please either call or sign up in the spotlight speaker book.
