What am I thankful for?

First and foremost, I am thankful that I have found the true love of my life, and that she feels the same way about me.

Ok, now that I've dispensed with the obligatory, here's what I'm also thankful for.

--I'm thankful to all the people who volunteered their time, donated money, and helped manage our Club events this year.

--I'm thankful that the Jags can actually win a couple of games.

--I'm thankful that I still have both my parents to share time with.

--I'm thankful that our businesses have been good this year for most of us.

--I'm thankful for the roof over our heads, and the time we get to spend together on the couch after a long day.

--I'm thankful that I have my health with me.  I hope I didn't just jinx that.

--I'm thankful that Florida won the SEC East!

--I'm thankful that next year's leadership will continue to propel our Club to new heights.

--I'm thankful that I have great friends.

--I'm thankful that I get to live in Jacksonville, Florida!

--I'm thankful that I have a good employer to work for.

--I'm thankful every day when I wake up and the world is still here.

--I'm thankful for all the events I've experienced, and the people I've known over the years, who've helped mold me.

My list can go on, but I truly hope that all of you will find a plethora of reasons to be thankful, as well.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

CHILDREN'S SHOPPING SPREE

"The holidays are the spirit of giving without a thought of getting. It is happiness because we see joy in people. It is forgetting self and finding time for others. It is discarding the meaningless and stressing the true values." - Thomas S. Monson

On December 5th, SBMC is partnering with The Davis Center for our Annual Christmas Shopping Spree! We will take approximately 25-30 children to Target on San Jose around 6AM. Target will open exclusively for us to take the children around the store. Each child gets a specific amount to spend and SBMC volunteers spend the morning helping a child pick out gifts and presents!

If you are interested in volunteering for this amazing event, look for the sign up sheet at the meetings or see Megan Turner. Spots do fill up fast so don't wait to sign up!

JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT

What is JA Reverse Job Shadow?

JA Reverse Job Shadow has the look and feel of a Career Fair.  It is a four hour event starting at 12:30pm on December 11th, at Southside Middle School.

Junior Achievement needs 15 SBMC volunteers from a variety of businesses to speak with students. This will be held in the gymnasium with tables to display items related to your industry (cannot guarantee that there will be electrical outlets available).

You should expect to answer the following questions:
  1. What is your job and career path?
  2. What are other possible jobs in this career field?
  3. What are the skills and educational requirements for this job? (Will they need communication skills, writing skills, math skills, college degree, trade school, industrial certifications?)
  4. What type of background screening is required in this career field?
  5. What is the job outlook for this career? (Will there be jobs in this field when these students graduate?)
  6. What is the earning potential? (Initial salary and top end salaries.)
What are the responsibilities of the volunteer?
  • Be on time!
  • Prepare to answer the 6 questions listed and expect additional questions about your career path.
  • Bring visual aids that represent your field.

SERGEANT-AT-ARMS

There are 2016 spotlight speaker dates available!  The book is at the sign-in table at each meeting.

This is free to all members in good standing and gives you the opportunity to talk about your business, family, interests, or anything else you would like to talk about for five minutes.  You are also able to put out business cards, flyers, or informational materials on the tables to showcase your business.

Pick your date before they fill up!

We also ask for volunteers to help us start our meetings to get us thinking about what is really important and what is behind whatever success we have achieved - God and Country.

If you have a calling to lead us in prayer/invocation or the pledge of allegiance, please either call or sign up in the spotlight speaker book.
