Last October, SBMC held our 1st annual Duckworth Construction YAP Jr. R.O.T.C. Charity Clay Shoot, at Amelia Shotgun Sports.  This was a well-organized and successful event for our newly formed charity providing scholarships to local high school cadets for their continuing education, be it college or trade schools.

We had a number of members who shot, and members who volunteered in supporting various aspects to keep the day running smoothly.

This year's event will happen this coming Saturday!!  If you think you'd like to participate as either a contestant, or a volunteer, please contact Mike Russo at (904) 372-3019 or email him at [email protected]

MONTHLY GOLF OUTING
MONTHLY GOLF OUTING FRIDAY, OCTOBER 9th AT DEERWOOD GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB.

Our next SBMC golf outing will be on Friday, October 9th at Deerwood Golf & Country Club. Cost to participate is $50.00 (+tax) and we have 32 spots available. The price includes green/cart fees and range balls prior to your round. We'll have a shotgun start at 12:00 noon.

Deerwood is one of the best maintained private courses in the area with a tremendous history. The original land was owned by the Skinner family and development of an exclusive residential community with stately homes and luxurious amenities started in 1960. George Cobb, a legendary golf architect, was commissioned to design the club's course, while Jim McNair was hired to develop the program. By 1967, the club had earned the right to host the Greater Jacksonville Open (which later became THE PLAYERS Championship), a prestigious event that the club hosted from 1967-1969 and 1972-1975. Winners of these PGA Tour events at Deerwood include Tony Jacklin (2x), Raymond Floyd, Jim Colbert, Hubert Green and Larry Ziegler.

In 1975 President Gerald Ford met with Egyptian President Anwar Sadat at Deerwood for Middle East peace talks. From 1980 Gate Petroleum owned the club, but in 1999, the club's members banded together to purchase the club from Gate, making Deerwood an equity club. Thanks to a $10 million renovation in 2004 that included a brand-new clubhouse and fitness center as well as a total redesign of the golf course by architect Brian Silva, Deerwood Country Club remains a leader among Jacksonville's private clubs.

This is definitely one of the best courses to play in the area. So, come join your fellow SBMC members and friends for a round of golf! To reserve your spot(s) contact Nico Hogeveen at (904) 403-6754 or send an email to [email protected].

SERGEANT-AT-ARMS

There are 2015 spotlight speaker dates available!  The book is at the sign-in table at each meeting.

This is free to all members in good standing and gives you the opportunity to talk about your business, family, interests, or anything else you would like to talk about for five minutes.  You are also able to put out business cards, flyers, or informational materials on the tables to showcase your business.

Pick your date before they fill up!

We also ask for volunteers to help us start our meetings to get us thinking about what is really important and what is behind whatever success we have achieved - God and Country.

If you have a calling to lead us in prayer/invocation or the pledge of allegiance, please either call or sign up in the spotlight speaker book.
