Southside Business Men's Club
(904) 813-8950

When the Club Chairwoman and I are out and about, people sometimes ask, 'Who are the people/businesses that become members of the Southside Business Men's Club'?

Well, it's a diverse group, that's for sure.  We do not limit our membership to only one person/company for a specific type of business.  Nor do we focus on only certain types of businesses.  We look for people who want to be active in the Club, and do good deeds in our community.

I have said many times, that when I opened my home inspection business (just before the real estate crash), I found an abundance of members who were able to help me establish my new company:  an attorney, banker, printer, marketing agent, and a CPA.   But this is only a small portion of what rounds out our membership.

With our all-new SBMC website our members are able to lookup (and download) the entire Club membership data.  You can choose from either the Excel spreadsheet (where you can cut-and-paste any specific data you require) or, the PDF format (where you can print a complete and constantly up-to-date directory).   Case in point, I chose the Excel spreadsheet for the following:
This is where you start to hum the tune of 'I've Been Everywhere' from Johnny Cash.
On the Southside of Jax, a man traveled from Timuquana Road...

Said he needed a job, and was looking for an abode...

'It's good you're leaving Timuquana, Mack, to be on the southside...

There's enough history and prosperity here to turn the tide'...

He asked me if I knew where he could get some grub...

I said, 'Listen! First you need to join the Southside Business Men's Club'.

(Did you spot your company?  Huh, didja?)

Be sure to attend this Wednesday's meeting.  It's our annual Past
President's luncheon.  In addition to recognizing and thanking all of the Past President's for their unselfish contributions to our great Club, we will have a special tribute to A.J. Pionessa.  Over a dozen Past Presidents will be in attendance.  Hopefully, you will be too!
This month the board approved the following new members/alternates who were invited to orientation:
  • Amy Howard, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
  • Karen Tutwiler, Manormor Sotheby's
  • Brandon Stanko, Law Office of Brandon A Stanko, PLLC
All new members attending orientation and induction will also be given a Meet-a-Member voucher to exchange for a ticket to the MaM of their choice in 2015 compliments of Jack Manilla of Portofino Pools!  Please introduce yourself, make them feel welcome, and help acclimate our new members to the club.
The second-half membership contest is off and running, please bring guests and get applications!

2015 Membership Chair

We need your help in constructing the new 2015 SBMC Veteran's Day Parade Float The float is dedicated to our nation's military service members, both active and Veterans alike, and commemorates those who have given the supreme sacrifice for this great nation.

Work will begin Tuesday, 22 September at 5:30pm.

Work site location:  Central Park Office/Industrial Park, 3728 Philips Highway #304, Jacksonville (just south of Emerson and Philips).  This is the same location as last year.

Food and water will be provided.  As always, bring your own adult beverages, if desired.

We are also looking for volunteers willing to provide dinner for the work crew.  Many thanks to Faye Lance from Sugar Snob Chocolates for offering to cater the evening of 22 September.  If interested in catering future evenings please contact Valerie Segraves at (904) 307-6083 or
[email protected]

If have any questions please contact the following Committee members.  A Volunteer sign-up book will be available at each Club meeting to assist in work planning but even if you cannot sign up, we'd love to have you join us.
Chairman: Charles Armstrong, [email protected] or (813) 545-9862
Co-Chair: Hal Smith, [email protected] or (904) 881-1036

Our next SBMC golf outing will be on Friday, September 18th at Cimarrone Golf Club. Cost to participate is $37.00 (+tax) and we have 32 spots available. The price includes green/cart fees and range balls prior to your round. We'll have sequential tee times starting at 11:45 AM.
Cimarrone has gone through a second series of recent improvements and the course is in very good condition. Players of all abilities will enjoy Cimarrone's par 72, 6891 yard championship layout. Its manicured course and challenging design provides a fun, player-friendly experience for golfers of all abilities. Beginners will enjoy Cimarrone's well-defined fairways and magnificent greens. Advanced players will appreciate numerous risk-reward opportunities provided by strategically placed bunkers and a water or marsh feature on every hole.
Come join your fellow SBMC members and friends for a round of golf! To reserve your spot(s) contact Nico Hogeveen at (904) 403-6754 or send an email to [email protected].

There are 2015 spotlight speaker dates available!  The book is at the sign-in table at each meeting.

This is free to all members in good standing and gives you the opportunity to talk about your business, family, interests, or anything else you would like to talk about for five minutes.  You are also able to put out business cards, flyers, or informational materials on the tables to showcase your business.

Pick your date before they fill up!

We also ask for volunteers to help us start our meetings to get us thinking about what is really important and what is behind whatever success we have achieved - God and Country.

If you have a calling to lead us in prayer/invocation or the pledge of allegiance, please either call or sign up in the spotlight speaker book.
