Schools out! Who says there's nothing going on with SBMC in the summer?
This year, we rearranged our event calendar to smooth out the activity peaks and valleys. We worked it (where possible) so that our summertime activities are indoors! Whereas the rest of the country enjoys the great outdoors for a few months, people of the Deep South retreat to air-conditioning. When we're forced to go on errands, we find the shady parking spot, no matter how far from the store front...but, I digress.
Yesterday, we enjoyed our 5th Annual SBMC Car Show, at the Hooters (air conditioned) on Southside Blvd. Many thanks to all the event sponsors, Jepp Walter, Joe Lemire, and the rest of the crew for putting this on.
This coming Saturday is our 5th annual deep sea fishing trip (not air conditioned). This event has sold out repeatedly over the years and there are only a few spots left. This is a fantastic value including lunch and drinks; all you need to bring is your clothed self. Book with Mike Russo quickly, if you love to fish! I don't. There's a reason I joined the Army, and not the Navy...Timmy and boats on waves don't get along together. So, I'll be sending my 'bon voyage' from the shore, then stop by Costco to buy some fish...but, again, I digress.
June 18th is a Meet-a-Member event being held at Regus. Get your $5 tickets at any meeting; it's the best entertainment value in town!!
We have 3 EXCELLENT monthly golf outings coming up. Friday, June 26th at Deer Creek, Friday, July 31st at Palencia, and Friday, August 28th at Queens Harbour. 18 of the holes are hot, the 19th is air conditioned.
July 4th, I have arranged for a fireworks display to be lit at Friendship Fountain on the south bank. What the heck, go ahead and take the day off.
On July 16th, the SBMC Past Presidents are sponsoring the Texas Hold'em Tournament benefitting the Children's Christmas Shopping Spree. This event will be held at the Best Bet at Regency (air conditioned), and replaces the multi-day volunteer obligation of the Jax Fair in November. This event has created much excitement for our members and should be a huge success. Remember, it's for the kids! See the flyer in this newsletter.
July 25th, we will be holding our 4th (of 6), non-profit Club-member project of the year. This time we're partnering with City Rescue Mission, inside their air conditioned building. We will place donated items in care packages for our city's homeless. See the flyer in this newsletter. This is going to be a lot of fun!
On August 19th at the regular meeting, we will be drawing for our second SBMC raffle winner of the year. This time, we're raffling a $500 Costco gift card and a year's membership. Tickets will be available at the beginning of July.
All of this, in addition to the weekly meetings with great guest speakers and your's truly, at the lovely (air conditioned) San Jose Country Club.
So, cancel your family vacation (the kid's don't really want to see the world's largest ball of string, anyway). We have WAY too much going on, to miss out on!
