Though it had been a couple of very cold days last week, it finally started to warm up on Saturday, and we were able to complete our first 'non-profit member' project of the year!

As a reminder, throughout 2015 SBMC is partnering with our 5 non-profit members to help them achieve some of their goals this year.  These projects are relatively small in scope, but hopefully will garner beneficial results for everyone. I am very proud of the SBMC relationship with these organizations, and am glad to be a small part the good they do in our community.

Yesterday, we were at Pine Castle, a facility that serves local adults with intellectual and other disabilities, and supports their families in northeast Florida for over 60 years.  Among other contributions they bring to our community, Pine Castle's Community Employment Program produces industrial mops and survey stakes for sale.  SBMC member, Jon May has been the Executive Director of this facility for many years.  To learn more about what all Pine Castle offers, I encourage you to check out their website at www.pinecastle.org  this is a very heart-warming organization and we are fortunate to have them be a part of our city.

For our project, we purchased and planted some trees and shrubs at the front of the facility.  Annie has posted photos on our SBMC Facebook page.  I would really like to thank everyone who came out to help, and especially Tom Gill of The Yard Warrior, who supervised the planting.  Job well done!!

--Folks, this is exactly what our mission and focus is today.  We are here to improve the lives of the people in all Jacksonville, and specifically those on the southside.

CIVIC AFFAIRS

It's election season and we're allowing any candidate running for office on a first-come-first-served basis to speak for 5 minutes about their campaign.  If you're supporting anyone running, please have them contact Patrick Heatherington for arrangements.....the first available is NEXT week's meeting.

GOLF OUTING

MONTHLY GOLF OUTING FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 27TH

AT SOUTH HAMPTON

Our next SBMC golf outing will be on Friday, February 27th at the Golf Club at South Hampton. Cost per participant is $35.00 (+ tax) for green/cart fees and includes range balls for your warm-up. Our first tee time is at 12:06 PM and we have 28 spots available. If you want, we can pre-order a lunch box for you at $12.95 (incl. tax & gratuity) per person and it will be ready when you arrive. This is totally optional, but let me know in advance when you sign up.

South Hampton is a Marc McCumber signature course and provides a great challenge to both the experienced as well as novice golfer. Sixteen large lakes and over 60 contoured bunkers, in combination with meticulous landscaping, make it a superbly conditioned facility. The distinctive layout will test shot-making abilities and require the use of every club in the bag.

So, come join your fellow SBMC members and friends for a great round of golf! To reserve your spot(s) contact Nico Hogeveen at (904) 403-6754 or send an email to: [email protected].

There is also a volunteer list with the times needed for different tasks in the sign-up book that will be at the check-in table at the SBMC weekly meeting.  If you are unable to attend the meeting and would like volunteer; for setup from noon - 3:00 PM, cooking and serving from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM or breakdown and cleanup from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM;  please let Bruce know.

SERGEANT AT ARMS
There are 2015 spotlight speaker dates available!  The book is at the sign-in table at each meeting.

This is free to all members in good standing and gives you the opportunity to talk about your business, family, interests, or anything else you would like to talk about for five minutes.  You are also able to put out business cards, flyers, or informational materials on the tables to showcase your business.

Pick your date before they fill up!

We also ask for volunteers to help us start our meetings to get us thinking about what is really important and what is behind whatever success we have achieved - God and Country.

If you have a calling to lead us in prayer/invocation or the pledge of allegiance, please either call or sign up in the spotlight speaker book.
