Ok, so I know EVERY SBMC President says this EVERY year, but this year's Holiday Gala was something really special. We started off with cranberry apple martinis, moved on to beef wellington, and topped it all off with a beautiful chocolate fountain! We danced to the music of Jimmy Graves and Supernatural, and enjoyed a premium liquor bar courtesy of Mike Dungey and Nimnicht Fleet. Those were just some of the sights and sounds at this year's Gala. I would sincerely like to thank Steve DeSorbo, Wendy Helms, and Megan Turner for all of the hard work they put into making our party great. I would also like to thank our staff photographer Steve Bennett for capturing all of the wonderful moments of the evening. Except the embarrassing ones once the dancing started. We will save those exclusively for blackmail later.

This coming weekend we will be taking our Christmas Kids from the Davis Center shopping at the Target on San Jose in Mandarin. Remember that our event this year is sponsored by John Davoli and the Metro Diner. Many of you know that mornings, children, and Christmas are not on the top of my list of favorite things, but this event never ceases to warm my heart. Please contact Gene Maszy if you are interested in being one of Santa's Elves by helping a child shop for Christmas.

GOLF OUTING

SBMC MONTHLY GOLF OUTING - FRIDAY, DECEMBER 12th AT CIMARRONE GOLF CLUB

Our next Southside Business Men's Club (SBMC) golf outing will be at Cimarrone Golf Club on Friday, December 12th with a start time at 12:00 noon. Since December is an expensive month for many of us, we've tried to keep cost down for this outing and the fee will only be $29.00 (plus tax) per participant.

Players of all abilities will enjoy Cimarrone's championship layout. Designed by renowned architect David Postlethwait, the manicured course conditions and challenging design provides a fun, player-friendly experience for all golfers. You will enjoy Cimaronne's well-defined fairways and excellent greens as well as appreciate numerous risk-reward opportunities provided by strategically placed bunkers and many water and marsh features.

We have room for a maximum of 32 players. If you want to join us please contact me at 904-403-6754 or [email protected] to reserve your spot(s).

There are 2015 spotlight speaker dates available!  The book is at the sign-in table at each meeting.

This is free to all members in good standing and gives you the opportunity to talk about your business, family, interests, or anything else you would like to talk about for five minutes.  You are also able to put out business cards, flyers, or informational materials on the tables to showcase your business.

Pick your date before they fill up!

We also ask for volunteers to help us start our meetings to get us thinking about what is really important and what is behind whatever success we have achieved - God and Country.

If you have a calling to lead us in prayer/invocation or the pledge of allegiance, please either call or sign up in the spotlight speaker book.

2015 DUES & MEETING CHANGES

2015 Dues and Meeting attendance changes

From time-to-time the Board of Governors reviews activity levels of all our functions and the needs of our organization.  We do a great deal of work in the community as well as try to provide an environment which fosters networking and friendship for our members and their businesses.  In order to fund these endeavors we hold many volunteer functions for which the club is paid as well as request sponsorships for various events outside our charitable giving.  As the club continues to grow, the needs do as well and the board examined the smoothest way to ease the current burden in order to focus on the civic, social, and business aspects of our club.  Therefore the following changes take effect January 1 and for any memberships due to renew on or after January 1.

  • $20 increase in annual dues for both corporate and individual members
  • $5 increase to weekly non-eat costs for members and non-members (Currently $5 and $10)

We are still the most reasonable membership in town with the greatest flexibility.  The cost of attending and dining will remain at the current rates as long as our agreement with San Jose Country Club remains at the current rate.  Additionally we're the only organization that allows members and guests to attend at a discounted rate in lieu of participating in meals at the luncheon.  This will allow the club to continue to meet its obligations, minimize financial requests for non-charities functions, as well as reduce the number of requests for volunteers throughout the year to raise operating funds outside civic involvement.
