PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Tim Howe, 1st Vice President
Southside Business Men's Club
(904) 813-8950

I want to thank past President Ken Dean, for putting together a great Military Appreciation program at last Wednesday's meeting.  If you missed the meeting, Ken invited some local active military personnel to tell their stories.  Jeff Volpe and A. J. Pionessa bookended our Club's veterans with brief comments of their own.  Job well done!

Also, Tuesday is Veterans Day.  We are in need of a large group of Club volunteers to 'reassemble' the completed float at the staging area at 8am.  Location is Parking Lot J, of Everbank Field (northeast corner of the stadium).  The weather is supposed to be fantastic, and this is a lot of fun!!

--Jepp Walter is graciously providing breakfast sandwiches for our members, and there are complimentary coffee and donuts nearby.  I hear Julie Clements will also bring some goodies.

--Thank you Mike Dungey for allowing SBMC to once again use a Nimnicht Chevrolet truck to pull the float.

--Special thanks to: Hal Smith, Charles Armstrong, and Gene Bushor for their determination to see this event come to fruition.

--Lastly, we encourage our Armed Forces Veterans and to ride on the float as well!

Tim Howe,

1st V.P.

VETERANS DAY FLOAT
Volunteers & Veterans Needed for the Veteran's Day Parade, Tuesday, 11 November!

Our Veteran's Day Float has been completed and is ready to roll through Downtown Jacksonville and honor our Veterans.

We still need some help in final assembly prior to the parade and tear down afterwards.

We will be staging the float at EverBank Field in parking Lot J and work will begin around 8am.  Parking for volunteers will be on Lee Road near the Prime Osborne Convention Center (the end of the parade route) and a shuttle service will deliver you to Lot J.

Tear down will commence immediately after we finish the parade route.  We will then bring the float and related materials to Gene Bushor's place for stowage until next year.

Additionally, any Club Member who is a Veteran is eligible to ride and on the float and we encourage your participation.  It is an opportunity to honor your service and those service members who went before you and came after you.

Lastly, each time you volunteer your name goes into a hat. There will be a drawing at the end for two Jaguar tickets and a parking pass!

Please contact the following members if you have any questions or interest in participating, or just SHOW UP!

Special thanks to Tom Kennedy from Stumbling Steer BBQ who catered the November 4th working party.

Chairman: Hal Smith, [email protected]
Co-Chair: Charles Armstrong, [email protected]
3rd Vice President: Julie Clements, [email protected]

JACKSONVILLE FAIR
Fair Beer Tents

The Greater Jacksonville Fair is running the first two weeks of November.  Every year, our Club volunteers at the fair to raise money. Our tips go to our Annual Childrens' Christmas Shopping Spree.

This year we need your help to man the beer tents at the Fair. Attached is the current beer tent schedule. Please review it and contact Steve Johnston  to volunteer.

This is a great opportunity to support a good cause and have lots of fun.

SBMC GOLF OUTING

SBMC MONTHLY GOLF OUTING - FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 14th AT DEERCREEK COUNTRY CLUB

Our next SBMC golf outing will be at Deercreek Country Club on Friday, November 14th with a first tee time at 12:00 noon. The cost is $40.00 (plus tax) per participant and includes range balls.

Many area players know that Deercreek's Robert Miller-designed layout brings out the best in them with its challenging carries over creeks and wetlands, demanding doglegs and sentinel pines lining the fairways. Great shots are applauded not only by your playing partners, but also by the wing-beat of snowy egrets, ducks and great blue herons. Fast and true, the greens rise like emerald isles guarded by bunkers and gentle mounding. A wonderful test to enjoy with your SBMC friends!

As some of you know, Deercreek happens to be my home-course and I will leverage the advantage of local knowledge as best as I can! We have room for a maximum of 32 players. If you want to join us please contact me at 904-403-6754 or [email protected] to reserve your spot(s).

BFFF:  Bring a Friend; get Food for Free!!

November 12th is the day!  Bring a Friend, or someone you know who will be a great member to the meeting; if he or she joins, you both eat for FREE!! This is our latest member drive segment, (Parker Brothers attorneys told us to Cease and Desist with the 'Get Out of Lunch Free' program from this summer).  But the goal is the same: we still need to recruit 34 new members before year's end. We Can Do It!!!

As members of this great Club, we all have a responsibility to ensure that not only does it continue, but that it thrives.  If everyone does their part, we will easily exceed our goal. Thanks for all you do to support this Club.

SERGEANT AT ARMS
Do you feel a calling to lead us in our Invocation or Pledge of Allegiance?

We ask for volunteers to help us start our meetings to get us thinking about what is really important and what is behind whatever success we have achieved - God and Country.

Please sign up or contact me if you would like to help.

We also have some openings for spotlight speaker this fall.  This is free to our members in good standing and gives you the opportunity to talk about your business, family, interests, or anything else you would like to talk about for five minutes.  You are also able to put out business cards, flyers, or informational materials on the tables to showcase your business.

Pick your date before they fill up!
