PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Annie Howe, President
Southside Business Men's Club
(904) 654-6095

For only the second time this year 1st VP/First Gentleman Tim Howe and I both had to miss our weekly meeting.  Last time we were in Puerto Rico on vacation, and for whatever reason, most people assumed that was once again the case.  Unfortunately, we were both just tied-up with our paying jobs.  I know Patrick Heatherington always does an outstanding job as a leader of our club, so it's nice to be able to leave you all in such capable hands!

We finally have the month of October behind us, and what a great month it was! Clay Shoots and Tailgates and Trade Shows OH MY!  Thanks to all of the officers, chair people, sponsors and volunteers who made our events last month fun and successful.

With November upon us, it's time for Veterans Day Parades and slinging beer at the Jacksonville Fair.  These are two great ways to meet your fellow members and get involved - all for a great cause.

VETERANS DAY FLOAT
WE NEED YOUR HELP.  CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS!

We need your help wrapping up the 2014 SBMC Veteran's Day Parade Float.  We have one more work meeting remaining.  The float is dedicated to our nation's military service members, both active and Veterans alike, and commemorates those who have given the supreme sacrifice for this great nation.  Please come out Tuesday evening, November 4th, at 5:30pm at 3728 Philips Highway, Suite #304.  We will also need volunteers on Veteran's Day for parade set up and tear down.  Details on that to follow.

Note this is a new and more modern location.  Clean and air conditioned.  The site is in the Central Park Office/Industrial complex on the west side of Philips Highway just south of Emerson Street.  Here is a link: https://goo.gl/maps/cTna5 ;

Food and water will be provided. You are welcome to BYOB.  And bring a lawn chair if you'd like to sit for a spell.  YOUR PARTICIPATION IS VERY IMPORTANT AS THIS REQUIRES VOLUNTEERS EACH WEEK TO COMPLETE THE PROJECT. Additionally, it is fun work.

If you are a veteran and would like your name in The Book Of Valor sign on the float please contact Valerie Segraves at [email protected]    Cost is $10.00 per name.

And every time you volunteer your name goes into a hat.  There will be a drawing at the end for 2 Jaguar tickets and a parking pass!!!

We are also selling shirts and hats:  1 for $15.00 or 2 for $20.00.  They will be at the meetings and at the Tuesday night float construction.

Please contact the following members if you have any questions or interest in participating, or just SHOW UP!

Special thanks to Mike and Sandy Davoli from Metro Diner who catered the October 28th working party.

Chairman:  Hal Smith, [email protected]
Co-Chair: Charles Armstrong, [email protected]
3rd Vice President: Julie Clements, [email protected]

JACKSONVILLE FAIR
Fair Beer Tents

The Greater Jacksonville Fair is running the first two weeks of November.  Every year, our Club volunteers at the fair to raise money. Our tips go to our Annual Childrens' Christmas Shopping Spree.

This year we need your help to man the beer tents at the Fair. Attached is the current beer tent schedule. Please review it and contact Steve Johnston  to volunteer.

This is a great opportunity to support a good cause and have lots of fun.

SBMC GOLF OUTING

SBMC MONTHLY GOLF OUTING - FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 14th AT DEERCREEK COUNTRY CLUB

Our next SBMC golf outing will be at Deercreek Country Club on Friday, November 14th with a first tee time at 12:00 noon. The cost is $40.00 (plus tax) per participant and includes range balls.

Many area players know that Deercreek's Robert Miller-designed layout brings out the best in them with its challenging carries over creeks and wetlands, demanding doglegs and sentinel pines lining the fairways. Great shots are applauded not only by your playing partners, but also by the wing-beat of snowy egrets, ducks and great blue herons. Fast and true, the greens rise like emerald isles guarded by bunkers and gentle mounding. A wonderful test to enjoy with your SBMC friends!

As some of you know, Deercreek happens to be my home-course and I will leverage the advantage of local knowledge as best as I can! We have room for a maximum of 32 players. If you want to join us please contact me at 904-403-6754 or [email protected] to reserve your spot(s).

BFFF:  Bring a Friend; get Food for Free!!

November 12th is the day!  Bring a Friend, or someone you know who will be a great member to the meeting; if he or she joins, you both eat for FREE!! This is our latest member drive segment, (Parker Brothers attorneys told us to Cease and Desist with the 'Get Out of Lunch Free' program from this summer).  But the goal is the same: we still need to recruit 34 new members before year's end. We Can Do It!!!

As members of this great Club, we all have a responsibility to ensure that not only does it continue, but that it thrives.  If everyone does their part, we will easily exceed our goal. Thanks for all you do to support this Club.

SERGEANT AT ARMS
Do you feel a calling to lead us in our Invocation or Pledge of Allegiance?

We ask for volunteers to help us start our meetings to get us thinking about what is really important and what is behind whatever success we have achieved - God and Country.

Please sign up or contact me if you would like to help.

We also have some openings for spotlight speaker this fall.  This is free to our members in good standing and gives you the opportunity to talk about your business, family, interests, or anything else you would like to talk about for five minutes.  You are also able to put out business cards, flyers, or informational materials on the tables to showcase your business.

Pick your date before they fill up!
