PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE |
Annie Howe, President
Southside Business Men's Club
(904) 654-6095
Last week we had what has become an annual tradition at our club, our Oktoberfest beer tasting meeting. Dan Regenhardt, Assistant Brewmaster from Anheuser Busch InBev brought a great sampling of delicious beers, or so I am told. Unfortunately, like a few others I didn't get to join in the beer-tasting fun. In the banking industry, drinking and playing with other people's money is generally frowned upon. Don't worry about me though, I snuck home a 6 pack sampler or two of the left overs by Executive Order.
This week we are having a trade show, and it's been years since we have had one. I would like to thank Jeanne Maron for putting it together. Jeanne approached me about doing a trade show a few months ago and was willing to take on the whole project by herself. I love it when our members not only have great ideas, but are willing to see them through! Please come to the meeting this week to support all of the members who are exhibiting.
Speaking of exhibition, this Saturday is our annual car show. All of the details are below, but I would just like to encourage our members to come out and join us. There will be some beautiful cars on display, so come take a look, buy a burger, and support your club!

VETERANS DAY FLOAT
|
CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS!!!!
Construction is underway on our 2014 SBMC Veteran's Day Parade Float. The float is dedicated to our nation's military service members, both active and Veterans alike, and commemorates those who have given the supreme sacrifice for this great nation. We need your help Tuesday evening, October 21st, at 5:30pm at 3728 Philips Highway, Suite #304, and will meet on consecutive Tuesday evenings through November 4th, same place and time.
Note this is a new and more modern location. The site is in the Central Park Office/Industrial complex on the west side of Philips Highway just south of Emerson Street. Here is a link: https://goo.gl/maps/cTna5
Food and water will be provided. You are welcome to BYOB. And bring a lawn chair if you'd like to sit for a spell. YOUR PARTICIPATION IS VERY IMPORTANT AS THIS REQUIRES SEVERAL VOLUNTEERS EACH WEEK TO COMPLETE THE PROJECT. Additionally, it is fun work.
If you are a veteran and would like your name in The Book Of Valor sign on the float please contact Valerie Segraves at [email protected] Cost is $10.00 per name.
And every time you volunteer your name goes into a hat. There will be a drawing at the end for 2 Jaguar tickets and a parking pass!!!
We are also selling shirts and hats: 1 for $15.00 or 2 for $20.00. They will be at the meetings and at the Tuesday night float construction.
Please contact the following members if you have any questions or interest in participating, or just SHOW UP!

BFFF: Bring a Friend; get Food for Free!!
November 12th is the day! Bring a Friend, or someone you know who will be a great member to the meeting; if he or she joins, you both eat for FREE!! This is our latest member drive segment, (Parker Brothers attorneys told us to Cease and Desist with the 'Get Out of Lunch Free' program from this summer). But the goal is the same: we still need to recruit 34 new members before year's end. We Can Do It!!!
As members of this great Club, we all have a responsibility to ensure that not only does it continue, but that it thrives. If everyone does their part, we will easily exceed our goal. Thanks for all you do to support this Club.

We ask for volunteers to help us start our meetings to get us thinking about what is really important and what is behind whatever success we have achieved - God and Country.
Please sign up or contact me if you would like to help.
We also have some openings for spotlight speaker this fall. This is free to our members in good standing and gives you the opportunity to talk about your business, family, interests, or anything else you would like to talk about for five minutes. You are also able to put out business cards, flyers, or informational materials on the tables to showcase your business.
