Last week we had what has become an annual tradition at our club, our Oktoberfest beer tasting meeting. Dan Regenhardt, Assistant Brewmaster from Anheuser Busch InBev brought a great sampling of delicious beers, or so I am told. Unfortunately, like a few others I didn't get to join in the beer-tasting fun. In the banking industry, drinking and playing with other people's money is generally frowned upon. Don't worry about me though, I snuck home a 6 pack sampler or two of the left overs by Executive Order.

This week we are having a trade show, and it's been years since we have had one. I would like to thank Jeanne Maron for putting it together. Jeanne approached me about doing a trade show a few months ago and was willing to take on the whole project by herself. I love it when our members not only have great ideas, but are willing to see them through! Please come to the meeting this week to support all of the members who are exhibiting.

Speaking of exhibition, this Saturday is our annual car show. All of the details are below, but I would just like to encourage our members to come out and join us. There will be some beautiful cars on display, so come take a look, buy a burger, and support your club!

A celebration of Cheryl's life will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2014 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Enza's Italian Restaurant," La Stanza" Banquet Room, 10601 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32257.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Community Hospice, 4266 Sunbeam Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32257 or the Southside Business Men's Club, Youth Achiever Program Scholarship Fund at P.O. Box 5053 Jacksonville, FL 32247.

Arrangements are under the direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home and Cemetery 4300 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207.

Please offer condolences and sign a guest register at

It's time for the SBMC 4th Annual Car and Bike Show!  This year we're giving the program a facelift and moving to J-Tech (Jones Technical College) on Western Way, formerly the Mercedes-Benz distribution center.  The facility is a Diesel and Automotive technician training facility with an immense amount of space for display.  The DJ is secured; we'll be grilling Burgers and Dogs with all proceeds benefiting Southside Business Men's Club.  Whether you have a car to showcase, are an enthusiast, or are looking for a great time on a Saturday mark your calendars and plan to come out and join us.

LaMee Florist and Anything With Plants are very excited about our Meet-a-Member from 5-7 on Thursday, October 30th.  We'll have lots of fun, food, libation, and surprises!  Since it's the day before Halloween eve; if you come in costume, there will be a special treat for you.  We'll even be giving flower designing lessons for anyone who wants to take an arrangement home.

Please join us at our shop and warehouse at 5040 St. Augustine Rd., located 1.1 mi. North of University Blvd.  Look for the big yellow watering can on our sign.  We have plenty of parking in our lot, as well as across the street.  You won't want to miss our SPOOKTACULAR event!  I'll have tickets at the next weekly meeting.  Call me at 398-9880, ext. 203 with any questions you might have.

Construction is underway on our 2014 SBMC Veteran's Day Parade Float.  The float is dedicated to our nation's military service members, both active and Veterans alike, and commemorates those who have given the supreme sacrifice for this great nation.  We need your help Tuesday evening, October 21st, at 5:30pm at 3728 Philips Highway, Suite #304, and will meet on consecutive Tuesday evenings through November 4th, same place and time.

Note this is a new and more modern location.  The site is in the Central Park Office/Industrial complex on the west side of Philips Highway just south of Emerson Street.  Here is a link:

Food and water will be provided. You are welcome to BYOB.  And bring a lawn chair if you'd like to sit for a spell.  YOUR PARTICIPATION IS VERY IMPORTANT AS THIS REQUIRES SEVERAL VOLUNTEERS EACH WEEK TO COMPLETE THE PROJECT. Additionally, it is fun work.

If you are a veteran and would like your name in The Book Of Valor sign on the float please contact Valerie Segraves at [email protected]    Cost is $10.00 per name.

And every time you volunteer your name goes into a hat.  There will be a drawing at the end for 2 Jaguar tickets and a parking pass!!!

We are also selling shirts and hats:  1 for $15.00 or 2 for $20.00.  They will be at the meetings and at the Tuesday night float construction.

Please contact the following members if you have any questions or interest in participating, or just SHOW UP!

BFFF:  Bring a Friend; get Food for Free!!

November 12th is the day!  Bring a Friend, or someone you know who will be a great member to the meeting; if he or she joins, you both eat for FREE!! This is our latest member drive segment, (Parker Brothers attorneys told us to Cease and Desist with the 'Get Out of Lunch Free' program from this summer).  But the goal is the same: we still need to recruit 34 new members before year's end. We Can Do It!!!

As members of this great Club, we all have a responsibility to ensure that not only does it continue, but that it thrives.  If everyone does their part, we will easily exceed our goal. Thanks for all you do to support this Club.

Frank Wallmeyer,                                                                                           Membership Chair

Do you feel a calling to lead us in our Invocation or Pledge of Allegiance?

We ask for volunteers to help us start our meetings to get us thinking about what is really important and what is behind whatever success we have achieved - God and Country.

Please sign up or contact me if you would like to help.

We also have some openings for spotlight speaker this fall.  This is free to our members in good standing and gives you the opportunity to talk about your business, family, interests, or anything else you would like to talk about for five minutes.  You are also able to put out business cards, flyers, or informational materials on the tables to showcase your business.

Pick your date before they fill up!
