PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Annie Howe, President
Southside Business Men's Club
(904) 654-6095

As an active, vibrant, 82 year old organization, the SBMC fulfills the needs of many aspects of our lives. We are a social club, we do business with one another, we care about the direction our community is headed, and we chip in to support the needs of local children and Veterans. This week, our focus is on the charitable aspect of our club. Through our Youth Achiever Program we support local 5th grade Safety Patrol students by helping them fundraise for a trip to Washington, D.C. where they will have an opportunity to learn about the civic process.

Wednesday we will host the students of Pine Forest Elementary at our club luncheon, and Thursday we will be selling chicken dinners at their school. Please plan to come to the meeting, and volunteer at the cook out to show your support.

Sharing sad news is undoubtedly the hardest part of being Madame President. It is with a heavy heart that I inform you all that Axel von Loewenclau passed away Thursdaynight. You may recall that I recently shared with you that Axel had been diagnosed with terminal cancer. I will always remember Axel for his dedication to our club, as well as his hilariously dry sense of humor which was showcased several times during his Spotlight Speaker presentations.

Axels' viewing is today (Sunday) from 5:00-8:00pm at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home on San Jose Blvd. in Mandarin.  The funeral is 11:00am Monday at San Juan Del Rio Catholic Church on State Road 13 in Fruit Cove.  His wish was that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Orion Project.  Please keep Axel's family in your prayers at this difficult time.

YOUTH ACHIEVER PROGRAM
The Youth Achiever Program helps the boys and girls who serve as Southside Elementary school safety patrols, specifically those of Pine Forest with the cost of the trip to Washington DC. Then later upon applying to college, these same students are eligible to apply for our annual YAP college scholarships to the schools of their choice (usually $1,000-$1,500 depending on demand). This program is funded in part by our semi-annual Youth Achiever Program cook-outs. The date for the Fall YAP is Oct 1st for the luncheon and Oct 2nd for the BBQ Cook-Out at Pine Forest Elementary.

PLEASE SIGN UP TO VOLUNTEER ON Oct 2nd AT PINE FOREST ELEMENTARY. WE HAVE 2 SHIFTS: 12:00-4:00 AND 3:00-6:00. WE WILL BE SETTING UP AND SERVING THE CHICKEN DINNERS. YOU CAN SIGN UP BY SENDING ME AN EMAIL OR PUTTING YOUR NAME IN THE YAP BOOK THAT WILL BE AT THE MEETINGS.

MEMBERS NEEDED BY THE END OF THE YEAR:  40

SBMC is comprised of the nicest, most fun and most loyal people I've ever had the pleasure to meet.  In order for this Club to remain dynamic, it's imperative that we all do our part to invite like-minded people to become members.

Our goal for the remainder of the year is clearly shown above.  This is a very attainable goal, but the only way that we will achieve this goal is if we all work together.   I ask that you please do your part by adding one new member by the end of the year.  Think of your friends, neighbors, customers and vendors.  In your circle of influence there is at least one person who can and will make a great new member.

As members of this great Club, we all have a responsibility to ensure that not only does it continue, but that it thrives.   I thank you all.

Frank Wallmeyer,                                                                                           Membership Chair

SERGEANT AT ARMS
Do you feel a calling to lead us in our Invocation or Pledge of Allegiance?

We ask for volunteers to help us start our meetings to get us thinking about what is really important and what is behind whatever success we have achieved - God and Country.

Please sign up or contact me if you would like to help.

We also have some openings for spotlight speaker this fall.  This is free to our members in good standing and gives you the opportunity to talk about your business, family, interests, or anything else you would like to talk about for five minutes.  You are also able to put out business cards, flyers, or informational materials on the tables to showcase your business.

Pick your date before they fill up!
