PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Tim Howe, 1st Vice President
Southside Business Men's Club
(904) 813-8950

At last Wednesday's Past President's Day celebration, SBMC members had the great honor of seeing many of the Presidents who've led our club, during the last 40 years.  Their dedication to this organization was tremendous, and their feats will benefit the Southside of Jacksonville for years to come.

But rather than dwelling on their actions, take a good look at these men.  See the scars and wrinkles that they have earned, working for Jacksonville.  Notice that many of them still reside in this community.  Most are regularly active in this organization.  These men ARE the Southside of Jacksonville.  They have earned and deserve your respect.

When you come to a meeting, or Club event, take an extra moment to recognize them, and thank them for their passion in helping develop the Southside of Jacksonville, into what it is today.

--I would like to thank Scott Schilbrack for an outstanding presentation for these men, and for honoring those who are no longer with us.

MONTHLY GOLF OUTING

SBMC MONTHLY GOLF OUTING - FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 26th AT DEERWOOD COUNTRY CLUB

The next SBMC monthly golf outing will be at Deerwood Country Club. The date is Friday, September 26th and we'll have a shotgun start at 12:00PM. The cost is $50.00 (+ tax) per player and includes range balls.

Deerwood has seen more than 50 years of legendary golf. In 1960, golf architect George Cobb put Deerwood Country Club on the map by designing a stunning course that would eventually draw the attention of professional golfers, including competitors who came to Deerwood for the Greater Jacksonville Open (now known as THE PLAYERS Championship).

In 2004, Deerwood Country Club's entire golf facility underwent a comprehensive renovation. During this time, award-winning golf architect Brian Silva developed a brand-new, par-72 course with five sets of tees ranging from 5,228 yards for the reds to 7,261 yards for the championship tees.

We have a maximum of 36 participants. If you want to join us please contact Nico Hogeveen at 904-403-6754 or [email protected] to reserve your spot(s).

YOUTH ACHIEVER PROGRAM
The Youth Achiever Program helps the boys and girls who serve as Southside Elementary school safety patrols, specifically those of Pine Forest with the cost of the trip to Washington DC. Then later upon applying to college, these same students are eligible to apply for our annual YAP college scholarships to the schools of their choice (usually $1,000-$1,500 depending on demand). This program is funded in part by our semi-annual Youth Achiever Program cook-outs. The date for the Fall YAP is Oct 1st for the luncheon and Oct 2nd for the BBQ Cook-Out at Pine Forest Elementary.

PLEASE SIGN UP TO VOLUNTEER ON Oct 2nd AT PINE FOREST ELEMENTARY. WE HAVE 2 SHIFTS: 12:00-4:00 AND 3:00-6:00. WE WILL BE SETTING UP AND SERVING THE CHICKEN DINNERS. YOU CAN SIGN UP BY SENDING ME AN EMAIL OR PUTTING YOUR NAME IN THE YAP BOOK THAT WILL BE AT THE MEETINGS.

SERGEANT AT ARMS
Do you feel a calling to lead us in our Invocation or Pledge of Allegiance?

We ask for volunteers to help us start our meetings to get us thinking about what is really important and what is behind whatever success we have achieved - God and Country.

Please sign up or contact me if you would like to help.

We also have some openings for spotlight speaker this fall.  This is free to our members in good standing and gives you the opportunity to talk about your business, family, interests, or anything else you would like to talk about for five minutes.  You are also able to put out business cards, flyers, or informational materials on the tables to showcase your business.

Pick your date before they fill up!
