PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE |
Annie Howe, President
Southside Business Men's Club
(904) 654-6095
Madame President and our 1st VP (a.k.a. THE First Gentleman) have been busy moving this weekend and are without internet access. That said, I have the honor of drafting this week's President's message! We learned last week of how the Zoo industry is evolving from Tony Vecchio's very spirited presentation; he gave an informative and humorous speech. It was interesting to learn how today he is by his own definition an "endangered species" as most of his peers are business people with no background in zoo keeping while he began his career at the bottom elbow deep in....well you get the idea. Zoos originally were completely reliant upon local, state, and federal funding whereas today that's down to around 34% with Jacksonville far less dependent than most.
This week's program is sure to be one you won't want to miss! Sherriff and long-time SBMC member John Rutherford is our speaker and I'm certain he'll deliver a very informative program. Unless you've been living beneath a rock you've noticed our Membership Chairman Frank Wallmeyer is capitalizing on this week's high-level program with the "Get out of lunch free" membership contest. He's encouraging EVERYONE to bring guests and if your guest joins our club at lunch both you and they get a free lunch (and who was it that said there are no free lunches?). We're just over halfway through the year with a great deal left of which a new member could take advantage.
Golf Outings
The River Cruise
Fall YAP
Past Presidents Day
Political Debates
Military Appreciation Day
Veterans Day Float
Jaguars Tailgate (Jags vs. Steelers-projected sellout)
SBMC Car Show
1st Annual SBMC Clay Shoot
Jaxtoberfest Private Party
Children's Shopping Spree
Holiday Gala
Just to name a few, there's something for EVERYONE in this club! We had a great start to the year, but the fun has just begun.....with everything still to come why wouldn't you invite friends, clients, and vendors to join our organization? Help the best Civic organization in town grow our membership.
Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success
--Henry Ford
Sincerely,
Patrick Heatherington

MEET-A-MEMBER
|
The next Meet-a-Member will be Thursday, July 24th and is hosted by Cramer Law Center. Jeff's team is celebrating their 30th Anniversary! Do the math and you quickly discover the founding date is smack in the middle of the 80's ... July 1, 1984 to be precise!
Go Back to the Future, jump into your parachute pants, grab your Member's Only jacket and tease up your Flock of Seagulls hairdo for a fun 80's themed evening. Beer and wine were just as popular in the 80's as they are now so there will be some of that. And, some exceptional hors d'oeuvres by Hope Dempsey of D'Vine Cuisine will be served.
Tickets are $5 each. Attendance is limited to 50 spaces and there are only a few tickets left.

RIVER CRUISE
|
The River Cruise Party will be held on August 22 aboard the beautiful yacht, The Jacksonville Lady. There will be hot and cold o'rduourves, a cash bar available for your favorite adult beverages, and beautiful views of Jacksonville from the river. It is sure to be fun and entertaining. The cost is $30.00 per person so see Dee or go on line to pay for your tickets today. With all of the excitement, fun, and scuttlebutt about last year's cruise we expect this to be a sellout. Rumor has it that with 40 tickets sold we may be able to offer a free drink or 2.
So come out, enjoy and network with the fabulous members of our great organization!
Hope to see you all there!

Tailgate Committee Chairman
