PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE |
Annie Howe, President
Southside Business Men's Club

Powerful. That's the word that comes to mind when I think of our meeting last week. We had the honor to hear the stories of two Purple Heart Recipients: U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer (Ret) Ernest Serna, and U.S. Army Command Sergeant Major (Ret) William M. Smith. I don't remember a time when our members were so thoroughly engrossed while listening to a speaker; you could have literally heard a pin drop. It warmly reminded me of my own father, who would routinely tell stories of being at war. I am so grateful for these two men who spent so much of their lives in service to our nation. I am also thankful that they came home to tell these stories to their families, and later chose to share them with us.
We also had the opportunity to hear from Florida Lt. Governor Carlos Lopez-Cantera during our first candidate corner of the year. He gave us a little update on what's happening in Tallahassee and ended by saying a few nice words about our Purple Heart Recipients.
This week my friend Tracy Collins, AKA Tracy dot com, will be addressing our club and sharing with us the story of Goodwill Industries of North Florida. This non-profit is a huge business partner with the community, and their impact on North Florida is significant. So please, join us this week, and bring an auction item to advertise your business. It's good for you and it's good for the club.

GOLF OUTING

SBMC MONTHLY GOLF OUTING - FRIDAY, JULY 18TH AT PALENCIA
The next SBMC monthly golf outing will be at Palencia on Friday, July 18th. We'll have a shotgun start at 12:30PM and the cost is $55.00 (+ tax) per player, including range balls. The Palencia Club was opened in May, 2002 and this private facility features an authentic Florida layout that was designed by Arthur Hills. Carved out between centuries-old oak trees, the championship golf course offers a challenging experience. The breezes from the Intracoastal Waterway require golfers to have good shot accuracy for this course. Meticulously maintained, Palencia's golf course offers many breath-taking views along the marsh, wetlands, preserves and the Tolomato River. It has received the well-earned honor of being an Audubon Sanctuary and has a great practice area, so come early to hone your skills.

Please contact Nico Hogeveen at 904-403-6754 or [email protected] to reserve your spot(s).

MEET-A-MEMBER
|
The next Meet-a-Member will be Thursday, July 24th and is hosted by Cramer Law Center. Jeff's team is celebrating their 30th Anniversary! Do the math and you quickly discover the founding date is smack in the middle of the 80's ... July 1, 1984 to be precise!
Go Back to the Future, jump into your parachute pants, grab your Member's Only jacket and tease up your Flock of Seagulls hairdo for a fun 80's themed evening. Beer and wine were just as popular in the 80's as they are now so there will be some of that. And, some exceptional hors d'oeuvres by Hope Dempsey of D'Vine Cuisine will be served.
Tickets are $5 each and will go on sale soon so stay tuned at upcoming meetings.
