PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Annie Howe, President
Southside Business Men's Club
(904) 654-6095

One thing I love about our club is our ability to quickly overcome obstacles! Last Tuesday evening I got word from our vacationing Program Chairman (hope you enjoyed the cruise, Steve!) that our Guest Speaker for the week had an emergency and was going to be unable to attend our meeting the following day. I immediately sent an e-mail to our officers as I thought through our usual back-up plan. Charles McBurney? Already gave us a legislative update. Matt Shirk? Spoke just a few weeks ago. Before I could get any further down the list in my mind my e-mail account pinged: 1st VP Tim Howe shot back with Melody Bishop. Eureka!

Obviously our great thanks go to Melody for stepping in and giving us an update on the goings on of the Downtown Investment Authority. Since their purview directly impacts the Southbank area as well as the rest of Downtown Jacksonville, I know this topic was timely and important to our members. Thanks again, Mrs. Bishop.

If you received the Jacksonville Business Journal last week I hope that you noticed that our club has been featured as the fifth largest Business Organization by measure of members. I did notice that #6 is nipping at our heals, so please remember to bring a guest to our meetings so we can grow our club.

We will have a very special presentation this week, when we will hear from and honor two recipients of the Purple Heart. We will also have a special guest joining us from Tallahassee for the event, recently appointed Lt. Governor Carlos Lopez-Cantera.

MEET-A-MEMBER
The next Meet-a-Member will be Thursday, July 24th and is hosted by Cramer Law Center. Jeff's team is celebrating their 30th Anniversary! Do the math and you quickly discover the founding date is smack in the middle of the 80's ... July 1, 1984 to be precise!

Go Back to the Future, jump into your parachute pants, grab your Member's Only jacket and tease up your Flock of Seagulls hairdo for a fun 80's themed evening. Beer and wine were just as popular in the 80's as they are now so there will be some of that. And, some exceptional hors d'oeuvres by Hope Dempsey of D'Vine Cuisine will be served.

Tickets are $5 each and will go on sale soon so stay tuned at upcoming meetings.
